Are You a Stumbler? This is the Best Way to React

Are you a stumbler Me too. Now what What are stumblers to do How should they react Have questions . . . this is for you.

“I’ll never be a non-stumbler. I’ll be a forgiven stumbler, but never a non-stumbler.” ~Toby Mac

Picture this…

Yesterday was one of those days you stumbled so badly that you stumbled into bed relieved it was over.

You wanted to “shake it off” like Taylor Swift, or “let it go” like Elsa; but the stumbles were huge.

You said things you want to take back. You wasted hours you can’t get back. You did things you’re definitely not proud of. And what about the love you’d intended to show, the forgiveness you’d intended to give, the kindness you’d planned to offer.

You’re a stumbler. Me too!

Aren’t you thankful Paul told us about his struggle with stumbling?

I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate. I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. Romans 7:15,19

It’s why we share our stories isn’t it?

To know we’re not alone in the struggle. To help and encourage each other. To tell of healing forgiveness and restored peace.

I can still replay mom moments I wish I’d handled with more patience. Words I wish I could take back. Attention I wish I’d given. More hugs and kisses. You get the idea.

I’m a stumbler.

And those are replays of mothering moments, when I add my other relationships . . . as a wife, a friend, a daughter, sister, granddaughter, teacher, etc. Ouch!

I’m a stumbler.

Paul continued in Romans 7:

Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. v. 24–25

And David said:

O Lord, You are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for Your help. Psalm 86:5

He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. Psalm 103:12

And Jesus Said:

“Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.” Mark 2:17

Friends we are stumblers. Most days I feel like a stumbler with a capital S. But thank God His answer for our stumbling is Jesus. Through Him we are forgiven . . . completely, thoroughly, unconditionally, perfectly.

Through Jesus we can “let it go” and live.

Are you a stumbler Me too. Now what What are stumblers to do How should they react Have questions . . . this is for you

I love Toby Mac’s song, Speak Life.

Some days, life feels perfect.
Other days it just ain’t workin.
The good, the bad, the right, the wrong
And everything in between.

Though it’s crazy, amazing
We can turn a heart with the words we say.
Mountains crumble with every syllable.
Hope can live or die

So speak Life, speak Life.
To the deadest darkest night.
Speak life, speak Life.
When the sun won’t shine and you don’t know why.
Look into the eyes of the brokenhearted;
Watch them come alive as soon as you speak hope,
You speak love, you speak life.

Why is it you and I can speak life more easily into someone else’s life than we can our own?

Get up now. Walk to the closest mirror and speak life to the beautiful person in the reflection. Speak the truth of God’s forgiveness and perfect love. Speak His truth, speak life over your stumbling.

  1. One of my missions in life is not only to live my adventure but to also speak life into others so they can be free to do the same.

    1. That is freedom! Living with faith and without critiquing others. Just loving them. So much more fun. You’re right – the makings for a grand life adventure. Blessings!

  2. First off Toby Mac’s song Speak Life is one I listen to at least once a day. It ‘speaks” to me every time. On the other hand I can SO relate to Paul right now. I hate what I do so why do I do it? That’s a truth I’ve been battling lately but trying to focus on the grace that God offers. I’m so grateful to have a Father that overlooks and forgives. Thanks for sharing.

  3. I love the image of the forgiven stumbler, Deb. There are so many times when I wished (and still do) I had done things differently and with more love, but I take heart in knowing Jesus loves me anyway – I know I need Him!
    Blessings!

  4. Deb- Love this post. Thank you for helping us move forward, even as we stumble and fumble. Stopping over from Three Word Wednesday.:)
