I'm so glad you're here.
Blessing counting leads to gratitude which leads to peace, contentment, and happiness . . . not from having what you want, but from wanting what you have.
Why I Will Not Say “My God”
Several years ago I was in a rather intense discussion about God’s qualities. As a long-time student of the Bible, I was passionate about my side of the conversation. I will never forget using the words, “my God is…” and I may have even said, “I need my God to be…”
I came away feeling like a true defender of God and His character.
Until later . . .
When God got my attention with His quiet tender voice saying, “Deb, I’m not who you say I am, I am who I say I am.”
I was thunderstruck. It’s amazing how His gentle whisper can knock the wind out of me.
I was so ashamed. I wondered how often I had misrepresented Him as I modified the infinite all-knowing, all-present, all-powerful God into the idol I wanted and not the God He is.
I wonder can you relate?
That experience convinced me that I will never completely understand God this side of heaven, and that’s okay. I don’t need to understand Him; I simply want to know Him. And the best way for me to know Him is through the Bible.
I believe what God says about Himself in the Bible, because without that I only have my opinions and the opinions of others.
I want to know who God says He is….
“I am God Almighty.” Genesis 17:1
The Lord said, “I have seen the suffering of my people . . . and I am concerned about their suffering.” Exodus 3:7
God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” Exodus 3:14
“I am the Lord , your God.” Exodus 6:7
‘Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy.” Leviticus 19:2
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
“I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols.” Isaiah 42:8
I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.” Isaiah 44:6
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. Isaiah 55:8
I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord. Jeremiah 9:24
“Can anyone hide from me in a secret place? Am I not everywhere in all the heavens and earth?” says the Lord.” Jeremiah 23:24
”I am the Lord God of all humanity. Nothing is too hard for me.” Jeremiah 32:27
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
I will not say “my God,” except during my personal prayer time, because it’s not about who I say God is, but about who He says He is. And who He says He is . . . is more than we can ever understand or imagine; and personal intimate love. We can trust who God says He is.
