American Sniper

“American Sniper” stars Bradley Cooper as Chris Kyle, whose skills as a sniper made him a hero on the battlefield. But there was much more to him than his skill as a sharpshooter.

A two-time Oscar® nominee for his work in “Silver Linings Playbook” and “American Hustle,” Cooper stars alongside Sienna Miller, Luke Grimes, Jake McDorman, Cory Hardrict, Kevin Lacz, Navid Negahban and Keir O’Donnell.

Oscar®-winning filmmaker Clint Eastwood (“Million Dollar Baby,” “Unforgiven”) directed “American Sniper” from a screenplay written by Jason Hall, based on the book by Chris Kyle, with Scott McEwen and Jim DeFelice. The autobiography was a runaway bestseller, spending 18 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, 13 of those at number one.

As Rev and I watched American Sniper last week I felt like I had arrived late at a big event. I’d heard so much about the movie when it was in theaters, and I was glad to learn of its success.

I’m not usually a fan of war movies, because I end up sad and have trouble letting go of the images imprinted in my mind.

American Sniper may be the best thing you can watch to understand the sacrifice our military makes for our safety. Memorial Day.

But I was invited to review American Sniper for its home viewing release and receive a give-away copy . . . not only that, but it’s time for me to get my head out of the sand. American soldiers don’t have movie images playing in their heads, they have real heartbreaking experiences to carry around for the rest of their lives.

So, I decided to honor those who have fought for the freedom I enjoy and truthfully take for granted—the least I can do is learn more about the incredible sacrifice our military members and their families make for us.
