3 Reasons You Need to Say, “I’m Beautiful!”

God made you. You are beautiful! So say it, “I’m Beautiful!” Say it again. Say it until you believe it…

I was in high school when Twiggy became the face of modeling. Her stick thin figure only added to my dissatisfaction with my size and shape . . . I’ve pretty much been on a diet ever since.

My mother’s generation celebrated curves. Think Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell. It was great for women with curves, but challenging for my mom who was tall and super thin.

More recently advertisers have represented the perfect body as one that has zero body fat with the exception of cleavage. A combination that screams – SEXY.

Add our obsession with looking young and we not only have shape issues we have wrinkle and sagging issues too.

God made you. You are beautiful! So say it, "I'm Beautiful!" Say it again. Say it until you believe it...

There are days when I look in the mirror and it’s impossible not to notice every flaw.

So, for all of you who, like me, need a pep talk here we go:

Let’s celebrate!

Repeat after me, “I’m beautiful.”
Say it again, “I’m beautiful!”
One more time, “I’m beautiful!!”

Do you believe it yet? No? Me either. Just keep saying it until you do.

Why? because…

God made you. You are beautiful! So say it, "I'm Beautiful!" Say it again. Say it until you believe it...

You were created by God.

And God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. Genesis 1:31

You were created for God.

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10

You were created to glow with inner beauty.

“Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart.” ~Kahlil Gibran

Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised. Proverbs 31:30

“Outer beauty attracts, but inner beauty captivates.” ~Kate Angell

Your Heavenly Father wants you to know that you are precious and beautiful. He designed you. He knew everything about you before your birth. Your height, your eye color, your weight, your hair color . . . even your freckles, your dimples, and the bump on your nose.

You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! Psalm 139:16–17

You were created to reflect His glory.

So, say it again, “I’m beautiful!”

Say…

God made you. You are beautiful! So say it, "I'm Beautiful!" Say it again. Say it until you believe it...

Say it again. Then shout…

I was made in God’s image. I was made to reflect His image.”

Celebrate. Smile. Have a little dance party. Live like you mean it.

[Tweet “And if any men are still reading—thank you brave soul!”]

I know society puts expectations on you too. And although you may not use the word beautiful choose one positive image word and remind yourself that you were created by God, for God, and who you are inside matters more than how you look outside.

Then please go hug your wife and daughters and tell them just how beautiful they are to you!

Finally, I’ll leave you with the words of Corallie Buchanan, award-winning Australian author of Watch Out! Godly Women on the Loose.

“Honey, God loves you just as you are. As people who have been created by God, we are infinitely precious to Him because we are His creation. Regardless of our outward appearance, we are all made with that spiritual potential to relate directly to Him, spirit to Spirit…

You may not look so favourably on your outward appearance, but when God looks at you, He sees His beautiful daughter. While God cares deeply about our own personal struggles with our outward appearances, whatever they may be, He cares even more for you. Your outward appearance does not change God’s acceptance of you, and it certainly does not change the way He feels about you.”

Now, say it one more time… “I’m beautiful. Created by God. For God. To glow with inner beauty and reflect His glory.

We would love to pray for you.

  1. I agree. As someone once said, “God don’t make no junk.” We are created in His Image. I believe sometimes we are much harder on judging ourselves.

    1. I agree Betty. I’m blessed that Rev tells me I’m beautiful daily. Sometimes I’ll say, “I wish I could see myself through your eyes.” I’m working on that. With God’s help I believe I can!

  2. Thank you for the words of encouragement. I need to remind myself that in God’s image, I am beautiful, even if I don’t always feel like it.

    1. Jessica, I need a reminder everyday. I am His and I am loved. I am not what I see in the mirror, but who I am covered by God’s grace . . . beautiful! Thanks for visiting and saying hello!

  3. Martha Orlando says:

As I get older, the mirror becomes less and less of a friend. 🙂 But I know God loves me for my inner beauty and that is more than enough for me.
    Blessings, Deb!

    1. Martha, I’m beginning to realize that I wish I’d been more at peace with my appearance years ago. I’m trying now to remind myself to enjoy today. Aging happens and some of the most beautiful women I’ve known have been in their 70s and 80s. I’m such a slow learner. 🙂

  4. Love this: “I will not allow a temperamental, frivolous and shallow world determine my self-image.” I will write that declaration in my journal and make it a mantra!

    1. Thanks Pamela. I’m working on that. I wrote it as a reminder to myself. I need to write it in my daily planner too. 🙂

  5. Such a great and inspirational post! Truly a wonderful way to start my morning 🙂 God bless!

  6. Kimberly Nyborg says:

Deb, good words and reminders! I remember when I really struggled!

    Thanks and blessings!

    1. It’s touch Kimberly. My prayer is to just stay focused on Jesus. More of Him and less of me keeps life in perspective. Blessings!

  7. I always love your blogposts! I love the scriptures you used to encourage fellow women how God sees us. Shared on pinterest

  8. It’s always good to be reminded we are beautiful and that we should tell ourselves this. We are own worst critic and you are right we need to change that. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thank you Daria! I’m so glad you stopped by and said hello! God bless you!

  9. I love this, it’s so important to remember, though sometimes it definitely gets tough! Thanks for sharing.

    1. Some days are better than others Melissa, but I’m definitely working on it. Another post written because I needed the reminder! Thanks so much for visiting and stopping to say hello! Blessings!

  10. Mary Flaherty says:

I love encouraging posts like this one. Lately, I’ve been noticing how old and frumpy my body is getting, despite my desperate attempts otherwise. But I’m beautiful nonetheless. I have something that young bodies don’t-I’m comfortable with who I am. I like myself. So take THAT, mirror! I love the pics, Deb!

    1. I agree Mary. I am much more comfortable in my skin too . . . trying to focus more on health than on the scale. You are beautiful! Thanks for commenting on the photos too. Trying something new! 🙂

  11. Clare Speer says:

Thanks for reminding us that yes, we are all beautiful to God! And I agree- we often have to keep repeating it over and over to ourselves until we believe it!

  12. Amen, Sister! Loved this big dose of encouragement in an area it is so easy to struggle in. I love the quote from Chorallie!

  13. I am beautiful! These words are ones that I need to say over and over because it is too easy to fall into the trap of the world. I do not fit into the image the world portrays but I fit into God’s image and that is all that matters. Thank you for sharing this at The Weekend Brew.
