Your 30 Days of Improving Your Attitude with Gratitude is almost complete. All that’s left is kicking entitlement to the curb and discovering the payoff of nice.

I hope you’re feeling happier, and that you’re noticing improved communication and stronger relationships.

So, this last weekend of the month . . . it’s time to reward yourself! Take a deep breath, relax, and do something you enjoy.

A Dozen Inexpensive Ways to Reward Yourself

1. Spend an afternoon at a museum, the zoo, or the park without wearing your watch.

2. Enjoy a diet free day – eat what you want and savor every bite.

3. Take a drive in the country or explore a different part of your city.

4. Invite a few friends over for appetizers or dessert. Keep it simple.

5. Have a movie marathon of your favorite feel-good classics.

6. Sleep in – don’t set your alarm clock.

7. Spend that gift card you’ve saved as a reward. This is it!

8. Buy yourself flowers.

9. Get that book you’ve wanted and read all afternoon.

10. Buy new bath products and enjoy an at home spa day.

11. Indulge in a single piece of fantabulous chocolate.

12. Spend the day with your favorite people, the ones who make you laugh.

Rewards are healthy!

They’re a pat on the back for a job well done. They’re encouragement for future efforts. They’re good for you.

And after you reward yourself this weekend, better yet . . . as you reward yourself, keep working on your attitude. Everyday. Without fail.

I promise it’s worth it. Because an attitude that is filled with gratitude notices blessings more often than problems, praises more than it complains, helps more than it hinders . . . and feels fantastic.

An attitude filled with gratitude feels like joy!

So praise God. He’s at work in you.

“Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of – throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself.” ~C.S.Lewis

  1. I seem to have been rewarding myself a lot lately. LOL But it helps my attitude! 🙂

  2. People tend to take for granted the good that is already present in their lives. There’s a gratitude exercise that instructs that you should imagine losing some of the things that you take for granted, such as your home, your ability to see or hear, your ability to walk, or anything that currently gives you comfort. Then imagine getting each of these things back, one by one, and consider how grateful you would be for each and every one. In addition, you need to start finding joy in the small things instead of holding out for big achievements—such as getting the promotion, having a comfortable nest egg saved up, getting married , having the baby, and so on–before allowing yourself to feel gratitude and joy.

    1. Great points Rene. I believe this is why blessing counting changed my life. I could get so frustrated as I focused on something that seemed just beyond my reach. Trusting God’ wisdom in my life and thanking and praising Him for everything – big and small has made a huge difference. Thanks so much for sharing this insight with us.
