Racism . . . a word that has always elicited a reaction, as well it should.
Is there a superior race? Nationality? Ethnicity? Language?
Questions that have sadly not only divided people but led to anger and violence.
God’s Word shows us the way to end the division of racism.
Jesus shared God’s command to “love your neighbor as you love yourself” with an “expert in religious law.” And the Bible says:
The man wanted to justify his actions, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”Luke 19:29
Jesus went on to tell the parable of the Good Samaritan . . . the Jews saw themselves as pure descendants of Abraham while Samaritans were a mixed-race and the groups hated each other. Jesus’ example of neighbor love was one of compassion and kindness in action to all people, even those the society tells us should be our enemies.
Jesus’ followers have an opportunity to give the world a glimpse of heaven.
I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb.Revelation 7:9
Each and every one of us . . . no matter how we appear on the outside is:
God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ JesusEphesians 2:10
God’s love is priceless and unfailing. He loves everyone of every race, nationality, and ethnicity. Jesus came and lived, died, and rose again for everyone of every race, nationality, and ethnicity. And He commands us to love as He loves and end racism.
Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.John 13:34
You and I don’t have to follow those who are intent on dividing us into racial groups. We can show the world the blessing of being united by God’s love. We can give them a glimpse of heaven. We can proclaim with all those who have been transformed by God’s grace:
“Salvation comes from our God who sits on the throne and from the Lamb!”Revelation 7:10
“Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and strength belong to our God forever and ever! Amen.”
United in praise we can share His eternal promise of hope, life, and love.
For the Lamb on the throne will be their Shepherd.Revelation 7:17
He will lead them to springs of life-giving water.
And God will wipe every tear from their eyes.”
A Prayer to End Racism with God’s Love
Father, Your Word says we are each uniquely and wonderfully made by You, that You watched over our growth even before we were born, and that You continue to watch over us every moment we live and everywhere we go. (Psalm 139) That is not true for some . . . it’s true for all. You love each of us personally and Your thoughts toward us are precious and caring.
You said, “people judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7) Please forgive us for thinking we know about someone because of the way they look. Forgive us for allowing divisions among us by race or nationality. Forgive us for not loving the way You want us to love.
Thank you for giving us sweet glimpses of heaven through Your Word. Thank you for reminding us that we are all one through Your love. Please help us reject the lies of divisiveness and end racism. Unite us in Christ Jesus and help us care for one another with servant’s hearts full of humility. Help us proclaim with all of heaven, “Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and strength belong to our God forever and ever! Amen.“
The enemy wants to divide us. He thrives on hate and division but we don’t have to let him.
God has given us everything we need to live in victory united in Christ’s love.
Spend some time today thinking about ways you can show God’s love in your community. Is there someone who needs your prayers? Someone who needs you to hear their story? Someone who needs a bag of groceries or supplies? Someone who just needs you to really see them?
Is there a cashier or server who needs a kind word? A person who needs your help?
Are there people who need you to look past their outward appearance and care about their hearts?
By God’s grace and with the Spirit’s help, you and I can make a difference and help to make changes that will help end racism with the truth of God’s love.
On today’s note write:
With God’s help, I will love like Jesus and do my part to end racism.
May God bless us today. May He fill us with His truth and love, and give us all everything we need to love like Jesus.
