You know your attitude is important if you want personal and relational peace. Here are15 to-dos or "be-attitudes" to help you reach your peace goal.

You know your attitude is important if you want personal and relational peace.

A negative attitude will not give you peace.

Okay. So you need a positive attitude. But how does a positive attitude really look?

I came up with 15 to-dos or “be-attitudes” to help you reach your peace goal.

15 Be-Attitudes That Will Help You Have Peace

Be Thankful.

Gratitude will help you focus on what you have. You will have fewer wants when you celebrate what you already have. Being thankful can give you peace.

And always be thankful. Colossians 3:15

Be Prayerful.

When life is challenging, prayer enables you to leave your problems with God. You can trust Him to help you and to do what’s best for you. Give your fear and anxiety to God and He will give you peace.

Never stop praying. 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Be Wise.

You and I can’t have  wisdom without knowing God’s will. We need to study His Word to know His truth and apply it to our lives. Living under the protection of God’s wisdom will give you peace.

My child, listen and be wise: Keep your heart on the right course. Proverbs 23:19

Be Satisfied.

Wow, we have to be careful here. It’s so easy to want more. Advertisers don’t succeed unless they make us dissatisfied wanters. Knowing your “needs” and separating them from your wants will give you peace.

Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit. Proverbs 23:4

“He who is not contented with what he has, will not be contented with what he doesn’t have.” — Socrates,

 Be Organized.

I live in a neat and organized house because Rev is neat and organized. But you should see my desk. I’m a stacker. Piles of papers with lists and ideas. Clutter is confusing. Physical clutter causes mental clutter and destroys our peace. Giving up clutter and getting organized can give you peace.

“Eliminate physical clutter. More importantly, eliminate spiritual clutter.” ~ D.H. Mondfleur

You know your attitude is important if you want personal and relational peace. Here are15 to-dos or "be-attitudes" to help you reach your peace goal.

Be Proactive.

Are you a planner? I’m good with appointments and editorial things but almost everything else gets done when it shouts at me. Dust bunnies are allowed to live in peace until they overpopulate. Then they have to go.

Planning helps me avoid the stress of having too many things shouting at me on the same day. It’s time to do better.

Proactive planning will help you avoid to-do list overload (like me) and give you peace.

So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. 1 Peter 1:13

Be Intentional.

Intentional planning will help you make time for what’s important to you.

Faith and family are essential to me. Without time with the Lord and my loves, I become a stressed out mess. I want to say “no” to the unimportant so I can say yes to the important.

Being intentional can give you peace.

“By keeping the truly important things front and center, we often get the perspective we need to make better decisions.” ~Michael Hyatt

Be Careful.

Spend carefully. I’m glad Rev and I had to learn to budget before major credit cards were readily available. My first salary was sooooo small and Rev was attending Seminary. But we managed with careful planning. Debt is stressful. Big debt is more stressful.

Careful living on a budget will give you peace.

Give me neither poverty nor riches! Give me just enough to satisfy my needs. Proverbs 30:8

(If debt is robbing you of peace, I recommend you read and apply Dave Ramsey’s financial principles. They will change your life.)

Be Quiet.

There’s a reason it’s called peace and quiet. But quiet is hard to find in an electronic and technology flooded environment. Turn it off. Take regular breaks from noise and enjoy a few minutes of silence. It will bless you. I promise. A few minutes of quiet will help to give you peace.

Then Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” Mark 6:31

Be Personal.

Be yourself and refuse to compare yourself to anyone! God made you unique and wonderful. Celebrate who you are and don’t let comparisons rob you of your joy or your peace. Refusing to compare yourself with others will give you peace.

I praise you because you made me in an amazing and wonderful way. Psalm 139:14

You know your attitude is important if you want personal and relational peace. Here are15 to-dos or "be-attitudes" to help you reach your peace goal.

Be Fearless.

I know a lot about living with fear. It’s impossible to have peace when you’re afraid. I’m not talking good fear that helps you make wise choices and keeps you safe. I’m talking the kind that paralyzes you and keeps you from living your God-given potential. Giving God your fear will make you fearless and give you peace.

“I leave you peace; my peace I give you. I do not give it to you as the world does. So don’t let your hearts be troubled or afraid. John 14:27

Be Patient.

Waiting is hard. People are annoying. Delays and interruptions have the potential to ruin our peace. With God’s help, patience is possible. Having patience through problems and with people will give you peace.

God will strengthen you with His own great power so that you will not give up when troubles come, but you will be patient. Colossians 1:11

Be Forgiving.

Holding on to anger and reliving past offenses will destroy your peace. Forgive like God has forgiven you. Forgiveness will give you peace.

Bear with each other, and forgive each other. If someone does wrong to you, forgive that person because the Lord forgave you. Colossians 3:13

Be Kind and Encouraging.

Relationships are more peaceful when we encourage each other. Remember it takes 10 positive statements to counteract 1 negative one. Be an encourager and be nice . . . you’ll enjoy more peace.

Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. Ephesians 4:29

Be Happy.

Look for tiny things to make you smile. Find joy in simple pleasures. Be happy. It’s amazing how just a moment of happiness can calm your heart and give you peace.

The art of being happy lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things.— Henry Ward Beecher

So, there you have it. 15 doable goals to help you turn around your attitude and enjoy more peace.

Finally, here’s one more quote to inspire you…

“We are perishing for want of wonder, not for want of wonders.” ~G. K. Chesterton

How to Love Your Spouse
Through the Busy Parenting Years

by Valerie Murray

@ Cord of 6

“Exhaustion and busyness can easily tire us out causing us to lose the desire
to pursue love with the same effort we gave when the relationship
was new and our vision was easily focused on one another.

I want to share a few vital ways to keep love alive during the busy season
of messy floors and interrupted conversations.”

  11. Great points. I like your picture with the G. K. Chesterton quote!
I’m working on the clutter right now. I read someone’s blog a week or so ago by someone close to the flooding in Louisiana, and they said they were considering getting rid of things that they would not cry over if they lost them to a flood. I thought that was a good idea. So I’m letting go of stuff a little bit at a time.

  12. This is a fantastic list, Deb! And Dave Ramsey has much practical financial advice!! Thanks for sharing on Grace and Truth.
