Maybe Christmas

Advent believers not only believe that Christ came, advent believers believe and live with the hope that He will come again.

Quotes for Advent

Thanks be to God for His unspeakable Gift— indescribable, inestimable, incomparable inexpressible – precious beyond words. ~ Lois Lebar

The greatest gift you will ever receive will never be found under a Christmas tree. It is far too valuable to be stored in any other place but in the depths of your heart. ~ Anonymous

The spirit of Christmas needs to superseded by the Spirit of Christ. The spirit of Christmas is annual; the Spirit of Christ is eternal. The spirit of Christmas is sentimental; the Spirit of Christ is supernatural. The spirit of Christmas is a human product; the Spirit of Christ is a divine person. That makes all the difference in the world. ~ Stuart Briscoe

This is Christmas: not the tinsel, not the giving and receiving, not even the carols, but the humble heart that receives anew the wondrous gift, the Christ. ~ Frank McKibben

“Optimism and hope are radically different attitudes. Optimism is the expectation that things—the weather, human relationship, the economy, the political situation, and so on—will get better. Hope is trust that God will fulfill God’s promises to us in a way that leads us to true freedom.” ~ Henri Nouwen

Sometimes it seems as though we spend our lives waiting. Daydreaming about an upcoming vacation, worrying over a medical test, preparing for the birth of grandchild-our days are filled with anticipation and anxiety over what the future holds. As Christians, we too spend our lives waiting. But we are waiting for something much bigger than a trip, bigger even than retirement or a wedding: We are waiting for the return of Jesus in glory. Advent heightens this sense of waiting, because it marks not only our anticipation of Jesus’ return, but also our remembrance of His arrival into our world – The Word made Flesh. ~ Anonymous

“God became man to turn creatures into sons: not simply to produce better men of the old kind but to produce a new kind of man.” ~ C.S.Lewis

“Christmas doesn’t come from a store, maybe Christmas perhaps means a little bit more …” Dr. Seuss

“Take time to be aware that in the very midst of our busy preparations for the celebration of Christ’s birth in ancient Bethlehem, Christ is reborn in the Bethlehems of our homes and daily lives. Take time, slow down, be still, be awake to the Divine Mystery that looks so common and so ordinary yet is wondrously present.” ~ Edward Hayes

“God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.” ~ C.S.Lewis

The Advent Conspiracy . . . We all want our Christmas to be a lot of things. Full of joy. Memories. Happiness. Above all, we want it to be about Jesus. What we don’t want is stress. Or debt. Or feeling like we “missed the moment”. Advent Conspiracy is a movement designed to help us all slow down and experience a Christmas worth remembering. But doing this means doing things a little differently. A little creatively. – It means turning Christmas upside down.

Let’s Talk: What are you doing this year to prepare your heart for Jesus?

  1. Usually, I read some sort of Christmas-focused book during December, but I have not even looked for one yet. Thankfully, ebooks make that easy to do. Any suggestions? Also, the adult SS class at church just finished a study on the ministry of Jesus, and it was very interesting studying his death & resurrection during the Christmas season. Think of what He ultimately did while celebrating Him coming into the world as a baby definitely changes how you think about Jesus and how you prepare your heart for Him at Christmas.

  2. I don’t have any Christmas-focused books, but I’m reading Whispers of Hope by Beth Moore right now and it’s excellent. I’m also writing a post about Where Would Jesus Go to Church by Gerald Roe for tomorrow. The list of books to read is always long, and I consider that a wonderful blessing. What a good idea to study Jesus death and resurrection at this time of year. We tend to separate it by holiday and I don’t think we should.

  3. Great quotes — love em! 🙂 Looking forward to exploring your blog site. Be blessed! #BloggerCareGroup
