The Heart of The Faith Project

The top five things I learned from The Faith Project this year. . . things I found consistent as I studied and lived out each word of the month.

I can’t believe we’ve come to the end of The Faith Project.

I’ll never come to the end of learning and growing . . . but this week closes out my year of digging deep and writing about twelve themes I believe are important parts of a life of faith.

Freedom
Love
Wisdom
Prayer
Humility
Patience
Stillness
Goodness
Peace
Worship
Gratitude
Joy

Wow! It’s been an adventure. You can find links to individual posts through the category section in the sidebar or by going to The Faith Project Pinterest Page.

Today, I want to share the top five things I learned this year . . . things I found consistent as I studied and lived out each month.

The Heart of The Faith Project

Everything Begins with God

I knew that. God is Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer. He is the source of faith and forgiveness. None of that was new to me.

What I’d never understood before was how God is the source of the details . . . of the tiny specifics. He is the source of my Freedom through Christ. He is LOVE. God is the Giver of Wisdom and the reason I can be Still. Jesus is my example of Humility and Goodness. It is through Him you and I have Peace with God. Even Prayer, Worship, Gratitude, and Joy are just responses to everything God has done.

The words Paul spoke to the people in Athens still apply today…

“He is the God who made the whole world and everything in it. He is the Lord of the land and the sky. He does not live in temples built by human hands. He is the one who gives people life, breath, and everything else they need. He does not need any help from them. He has everything he needs. God began by making one man, and from him, He made all the different people who live everywhere in the world. He decided exactly when and where they would live.

God wanted people to look for Him, and perhaps in searching all around for Him, they would find Him. But He is not far from any of us. It is through hHm that we are able to live, to do what we do, and to be who we are.” Acts 17:24–28a

The Enemy will Attack Growth

This shouldn’t have surprised me either, but it did. Every month the enemy attacked me in the area I was studying and living.

The first month he loaded me up big time on old feelings of guilt and shame. The next he provided plenty of difficult situations that made love a challenge. I can’t even begin to tell you how my patience was tested and how hard it was to find stillness.

Jesus said, “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy.” John 10:10

Wow! That is the truth!

He finishes that verse with a “but.” One of my favorite words in Scripture.

“But I came to give life—life that is full and good.”

And that’s what I learned.

When the enemy comes to take, Jesus gives. I just need to lean in to Him. Lay burdens at His feet and trust that He is greater than my circumstances.

Every need! This has been my greatest area of growth as it was my greatest need. Knowing God loves me so much He wants to be involved in every area of my life every day.

I don’t know about you but I like to be in control Maybe not in everything but in enough things that trusting God in the daily was, if I’m honest, a bit of an issue. As a long-time worrier who struggled with anxiety, let’s just say old habits don’t give up easily.

So, although I’m better than I used to be . . . total surrender in everything continues to be an everyday challenge. God has proven Himself faithful at meeting every need. And I am learning to begin each day with a prayer for surrendered faith.

Yes! I have surrendered this day to God. I will follow where He guides and I will do His will as He reveals it to me. Amen.

God Gives Us All We Need to Help Others

You and I are able to pour into others because God has already poured into us. It’s just that simple. He is love and gives us love to share. He gives peace so we can have peace in our homes. He is the source of our joy so we can spread joy around. And the list goes on and on.

When I’m running low on patience or anything else people need from me . . . I can go the God in stillness and let Him fill me to overflowing.

Anytime “I can’t” God can! And when I lean into Him . . . He will.

Jesus has the power of God, by which he has given us everything we need to live and to serve God. We have these things because we know him. Jesus called us by his glory and goodness. Through these He gave us the very great and precious promises. With these gifts you can share in God’s nature, and the world will not ruin you with its evil desires. 2 Peter 1:3–4

The Faith Project Will Never End

Never. I will spend the rest of my life getting to know my Savior better and learning more about my Father, through the power of His Spirit.

Although I’ve come to the end of this writing project, my need to dig deep is greater than ever.

I want to know Him. I want to know His will.

I want to love Him with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. And with His help, I want to love well the people He places around me.

We pray that the Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father will comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say. God loved us and gave us through His grace a wonderful hope and comfort that has no end. 2 Thessalonians 2:16–17

I can’t do this on my own . . . but with God’s help, I will surrender each day and follow wherever He leads.

Thank you!
