35 Powerful “I Am” Verses – God Is Who He Says He Is

Sharing is caring!

To know "the peace that goes beyond understanding," you and I have to know and trust the One who gives true peace. We need to know God is who He says He is. #BibleStudy #TrustGod #BibleVerses

I know it takes strong faith to have big peace . . . especially when life is hard.

But strong faith in anything that isn’t true or able to keep promises might make us feel better but it won’t give you and me real and lasting peace.

What have you believed that turned out to be untrue?

  • It’s easier to avoid my problems than to face them?
  • Life should be fair?
  • If I feel it, it must be true?
  • I can’t help it. It’s just who I am?
  • I can’t be happy until..?

I know I have. And there was no peace in avoidance, shoulds, and feelings.

To know “the peace that goes beyond understanding,” you and I have to know and trust the Giver of true peace.

So, I went digging.

Digging to know the Giver better.

Who Does God Say He Is?

And I found 35 “I am” verses. Things God says about Himself because He wants us to know and trust Him. He wants to give us peace.

To know "the peace that goes beyond understanding," you and I have to know and trust the One who gives true peace. We need to know God is who He says He is.

I’m saving this list so I can reject peace robbers and lies by comparing them to the truth.

It overwhelms me to realize God wants us to know Him . . . not just about Him but know Him. His character. His desires. His commands. His heart.

You and I can trust God is who He says He is. And that is a blessing that gives peace . . . the kind of peace that goes beyond understanding.

    1. Hi Deb,

My name is Deb Baker and my late husband’s initials were CMB.
I googled verses where God says I AM to save time and found your blog. I too had a great awakening in 2007 regarding God’s grace because I read a wonderful book by Joseph Prince called, “Destined to Reign”. That book changed my thinking, and my life. I look forward to exploring your blog. God bless you!

      1. Deb, thank you so much for visiting and for taking the time to say “hello.” I haven’t read that book, I will have to check it out! Thank you, again! God bless you!

          1. Hi am Benjamin from Ghana and I won’t to no learn more cause am confused about this Bible thing can you help me out? please!

          2. Thank you for visiting and reaching out, Benjamin. If you have a Bible, I recommend you begin by reading the New Testament. I like to read John first, then Matthew, Mark, Luke, and Romans. You can add Psalms and then begin Genesis and read it all. Before you read, pray and ask God to teach you the truth through each page and speak to your heart and mind the things He wants you to know. I’m praying for you … asking God to bless your time in His Word.

  1. Amen! What a hopeful list! I can’t read that and not tear up at how amazing God is! I love the verse in Isaiah that tells us to remember all God has done in the past!

  2. Deb, thank you for compiling this list. I especially like # 5: ““I am the Lord who heals you.” Exodus 15:26” Yesterday, I preached on abiding in Jesus–Jesus stated, “I am the Vine, you are the branches.”

    Blessings!

  3. Deb, you are ever mindful to faithfully point us back to the truth of His Word as the foundation for every area and circumstance of our lives! Thank you!!

  4. Hi Deb,
Thank you for the study and compilation of this scriptures. I will certainly use some of the scriptures in your list, as I’m starting to make a syllabus for my next Seminar: Whom people say I Am, and Whom you say I am? focusing on the words spoken by the Trinity.

May the Lord increase your insight and anointing to dig into His word, and to effectivily impart the obtained revelation to others.

    Blessings.

    Marco

  5. Hi Deb, thanks so much for this resource. I was just looking to compile the “I am” statements of God together for some teaching I will be doing. Haha! Thank you for your hard work in doing this already. This is a great resource and an awesome blessing to me (and my community). Thanks, Deb!

    1. Evnerpeg@aol.com I was sitting down compiling a list, myself, for a Facebook live teaching. I googled I AM and this list came up!!! What a blessing! Someone else has done most of the work. So if it’s okay, I’ll add these to the ones I have (like Genesis 15:7 I Am Lord (Jehovah, the self existent, eternal One) and 15:1 I Am your shield & buckler (Protector) I Am your 1great reward (He paid our sin debt). Thank you Deb and DL!

      1. Peggy, you are more than welcome to share these verses. I am glad to help and so glad this blessed you! Come back and visit again … I’d love to get to know you. God bless you!

  6. Hi Deb

    Continue to be blessing

  7. What a light and delightful page! I will use this list frequently for ministry as it is the best way to avoid THEOLOGY and tell His story. He once told me “my name is not Theo”.

  8. Hi,

I’m sure when this blog was written. But I just want to praise God and ask that He bless you for doing the Lord’s work.

I have been meditating since the beginning of the month of May 2019 asking the question “God who are you?”

On May 5/18/19 I found this post which answers that question. This was a moment of spiritual enlightenment for me.

May God continue to pour his knowledge in you!

    Thanks,
    Mia

    1. Mia, I am so blessed to know God used this to speak to your heart and mind. Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know. His love for us is so amazing. I read the following words written by Pastor John Snyder … He (Jesus) wants us to know that if we’ll live our lives in and with His love (and His help), we’ll be fulfilled in ways we couldn’t even imagine. It just doesn’t get any better than that! God bless you!

  9. The great I am. A friend sent me your article, so I’m subscribing to your blog. Thank you it’s so refreshing.

  10. Hi Deb
I am so gratefull for the compilation. I stumbled upon this while trying to recall a introduction a sensational voice gave years ago…
I AM GOD YOUR GOD, ALPHA AND OMEGA, I AM THE BEGINNING AND THE END…… and I can’t remember the rest. I feel awful and regret not writing it down.
Anyways, your article lifted my spirit and I appreciate it.

    Bless you!

    TFK

    1. I am glad it blessed you, Tatenda. I believe you’re looking for Revelation 1:8 – “I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God. “I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.”

I love that our Lord is the same yesterday, today, and forever. May He bless you and fill you with His peace.

  11. Thanks for the powerful Bible verses and this help to prepare for Night vigil in my Church..

Thanks a lot, May God bless you and give you strength to continue this mission work..
