The New Covenant given by God through Jesus changed everything. It makes it impossible for us to experience a new life transformed by grace and forgiveness. #NewCovenant #NewLife #Jesus #Blessings

Rev often smiles and says, “I sure am glad I was born in New Testament times.”

I’m guessing you are too.

I’m guessing most of us are glad we don’t have to take sheep or goats or doves to church as our weekly sacrifice. Or for that matter, see them sacrificed. I’d imagine our pastors are glad that’s not part of the job too.

The writer of Hebrews was thankful, too. So much so that they questioned Jewish Christians who were talking about going back to the Old Testament, Old Covenant system.

If the first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no need for a second covenant to replace it.

Hebrews 8:7

The Old Covenant was a contract of God’s Law.

God gave His laws, commands, and sacrifices to be followed and promised His blessings if they were.

But the New Covenant was God’s promise:

I will put my laws in their minds, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

Hebrews 8:10b

The LAB Notes add:

Under God’s New Covenant, God’s law is inside us . . . the Holy Spirit reminds us of Christ’s words, activates our conscience, influences our motives and desires, and makes us want to obey.

Because of His great love, God made the Old Covenant obsolete by fulfilling His promise to send a Savior . . . His promise new covenant.

When God speaks of a “new” covenant, it means he has made the first one obsolete. It is now out of date and will soon disappear.

Hebrews 8:13

You and I have been given the immense blessing of Jesus’ New Testament teachings and knowing that His sacrifice was once and for all. We have the Holy Spirit to teach and remind us of everything Jesus said. (John 14:26)

God replaced the covenant of the Law with the New Covenant of the Gospel. Jesus kept the covenant of the Law perfectly when we could not. He suffered our punishment so we could live under God’s covenant of grace. He made it possible for us to have a full and satisfying new life.

My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

John 10:10

A life that is full and satisfying now and by His grace . . . lasts forever.

A Prayer Thanking God for Jesus and the New Covenant

Father, thank you for giving us the New Covenant. Thank you for loving us so much that You made a new way for us to come to You by coming to us. We were unable to keep Your Law perfectly, so You gave Jesus to keep it for us. We failed to put You first. We failed to keep Your name holy. We failed to honor Your Sabbath as You desire. And we failed to love others as You command.

But Jesus came and lived a sinless life. He flawlessly showed us Your love. He suffered our punishment and opened the door to Your throne of grace. Because of Jesus . . . when we repent, we are completely forgiven. Because of Jesus . . . we can have a rich a satisfying life now and forever. Because of Jesus and the gift of the Spirit . . . we can know Your will, live with wisdom, and follow where You lead.

I am sorry for the times I have doubted You and Your love. Please forgive me and work in me until I am the person You created me to be. I long to love You with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. I want to love people in ways that show them Your love.

Thank you for Your love. Thank you for Jesus. Thank you for giving me Your Spirit. Thank you for the New Covenant of Your grace. May I live for Your glory and honor You every day of my life forever. Amen.

Through God’s New Covenant we are all saved the same way…

We believe that we are all saved the same way, by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus.”

Acts 15:11

By God’s undeserved grace.

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.

Ephesians 2:8

By God’s grace, He has written His will in our hearts and strengthened us by the power of His Spirit.

And when we SEEK Him first, He has promised that we will have everything we need to trust and obey and follow Jesus. That’s a promise that can change our lives and the lives of those around us.

On today’s note write:

By God’s grace, I will trust and follow His New Covenant.

May God bless you today as you SEEK Him first and love Him most.

  1. How can we thank Jesus enough for what He did for us? We can’t, but we can submit in obedience and live the rich, full life God wants to give us. May we all be grateful for His grace.
    Blessings, Deb!
