Wonderful Ways Jesus Showed People a Good God

Jesus showed us a good God! And the more we get to know Him the greater our understanding of just how great His goodness really is!

For generations the message has been, God is good!

But how do we know?

We know God is good because…

The Word became flesh and lived among us.

God became a man.

Jesus!

You and I can know everything we need to know about God by getting to know Jesus – the Word made flesh. Jesus said, “If you really knew me, you would know my Father, too. But now you do know Him, and you have seen Him.” John 14:7

History says Jesus was a good man. You and I know He showed us a good God.

Wonderful Ways Jesus Showed People a Good God

God who is:

Loving

Everything Jesus did, everything He does, was and is motivated by love. Love so amazing He willingly left the glory of heaven, walked the earth, and gave His life for you and me.

This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:12–13

Compassionate

Jesus looked past the surface into broken people who desperately needed His kindness, care, and direction. People like you and me.

Jesus saw the huge crowd as He stepped from the boat, and He had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So He began teaching them many things. Mark 6:36

Jesus showed us a good God! And the more we get to know Him the greater our understanding of just how great His goodness really is!

Gracious

Grace is God giving undeserving people, like you and me, forgiveness, provision, and care. Jesus spent His ministry forgiving sins, healing bodies, feeding the hungry and comforting broken hearts. Faithfully giving to undeserving people in need.

We believe that we are all saved the same way, by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus. Acts 15:11

Merciful

I can’t imagine how hard it had to be to say, “Father, forgive them because they don’t know what they are doing.” That is mercy! You and I are spared the punishment we deserve.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

Just

It’s hard to be completely fair. Favoritism is easier . . . drawn in by prosperity, power, or popularity. Jesus looked at everyone everywhere and saw the same need . . . the need for a Savior.

For God does not show favoritism. Romans 2:11

Righteous

Jesus lived completely free of sin and because of His sacrifice, God covers you and me with righteousness and sees us completely forgiven and free.

Christ had no sin, but God made Him become sin so that in Christ we could become right with God. 2 Corinthians 5:21

Kind

Jesus reached out to people of all backgrounds, showing kindness not only to those in need but also to those who turned against Him, denied Him, rejected Him, and abandoned Him.

You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:43–45

Faithful

Jesus . . . perfectly faithful to His mission and perfectly faithful to the will of His Father. Even as He cried out, “Not my will but yours be done.” He showed God’s good and faithful love.

So the Word became human and made His home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen His glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. John 1:14

Patient

Crowds constantly pressed in. People reaching, grabbing, needy . . . yet, Jesus patiently heard and healed. He showed us God’s perfectly patient love.

The Lord is not slow in doing what He promised—the way some people understand slowness. But God is being patient with you. He does not want anyone to be lost, but he wants all people to change their hearts and lives. 2 Peter 3:9

Forgiving

It’s one thing to forgive the global sins of the world and another to forgive personal injustices, betrayals, and painful wrongs. Jesus not only said, “I forgive you.” He suffered our punishment.

Listen! We are here to proclaim that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins. Acts 3:38

Jesus showed us a good God! And the more we get to know Him the greater our understanding of just how great His goodness really is!

Life-Giving

Present at creation. God with skin on. Giver of life today and forever. He has power over the curse of death and gives the promise of a life that will never end.

Life comes from the Father Himself, and He has allowed the Son to have life in Himself as well. John 5:26

Truthful

Jesus began many statements with the words, “I tell you the truth…” His words are truth. We can trust everything Jesus said! And the comfort, confidence, and strength He gives is good.

The One whom God sent speaks the words of God, because God gives Him the Spirit fully. John 3:33

Unchanging

I am typically influenced by my moods and emotions so, I’m thankful to know and love the One who faithfully loves, forgives, cares, and provides for all creation with unchanging consistency every day.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8

Personal

Not out there somewhere, out of reach or out of touch . . . but intimately involved in every part of your life. Jesus knows everything about you and wants you to know everything about Him. Wow!

I am the vine, and you are the branches. If any remain in me and I remain in them, they produce much fruit. But without me they can do nothing. John 15:5

 Self-sacrificing

He stepped out of eternity. Became a helpless baby. Lived under human constraints. And went to the cross because of His overwhelming love for you and me.

Though He was God, He did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, He gave up His divine privileges; He took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When He appeared in human form,  He humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Philippians 2:6–8

God is good!

Jesus showed up and showed us God’s goodness!

The more we get to know Jesus, the more we understand God’s goodness!

So we can shout with confidence . . . God is a good good God!

What a great post unpacking the goodness of God. Great job!

I love the reality that the only new covenant commandment is to love others as WE have been loved.

It reminds me to focus on HIs great love for me. Its only from that place that I can love others. We can only give away what we have received from Him.

    Glory!!

    1. Thank you, Adam! Oh, to love like Jesus. That’s my constant prayer. And you’re right when we focus on the love He has poured into our lives it is easier to let it overflow into the lives of the people around us. May it be so as I live it out! Blessings!

Thank you for highlighting these qualities of Jesus. Oh, to be more like Him each day.

  13. I love how you compared what history says about Jesus – His being a good man – to what He taught us about a good God. Yes, He was a good man – a perfect one, actually – but if He were only a good man and didn’t point us toward a good God, we would still be lost in our sin!

    1. Amen, Julie! Thanks so much for your encouragement! Blessings to you!
