Everything You Need to Know about Goodness in One Place

|

Sharing is caring!

I wanted to know about goodness but foolishly thought I'd be learning more about obedience. Was I wrong! Goodness is about righteousness, grace & love.

I wanted to know about goodness . . . but foolishly believed I would spend this month studying obedience.

Was I wrong!

Like everything else, goodness begins with God.

So, if you missed anything, I’ve gathered all the posts on goodness here in one place. Click on the title or graphic to read a post and take a minute to add your thoughts in the comments below.

I love hearing from you!

Goodness

What is Goodness? It’s Not What You Think!

God is good because everything about Him always has been and always will be good, and everything He has ever done or will ever do is good.

You are good and do only good; teach me your decrees. Psalm 119:68

Good God

Wonderful Ways Jesus Showed People a Good God

You and I can know everything we need to know about God by getting to know Jesus – the Word made flesh.

Jesus said, “If you really knew me, you would know my Father, too. But now you do know Him, and you have seen Him.” John 14:7

good gifts

When You Need to Remember God’s Gifts are Good

It’s a conundrum, isn’t it? You and I make our list and ask God to get on board and help us make it happen. Then we look around and realize that lists don’t always get checked off they way we want them to . . . even for those who love God.

Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. James 1:17

Being Yoked

The Truth about Being Yoked You Can’t Avoid

Jesus knew we would be yoked. He created us. He made us relational with an empty place we need to fill. Is your yoke dragging you down or giving you courage, hope, peace, and strength?

“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:29–30

Confident

Pray These 7 Verses to be Confident God is Good!

If you’re like me, you have times when you need confidence that God’s goodness is personal. Help to know God sees you, loves you, forgives you, provides for you, and has a plan for your life.

To really know with Your everything in you . . . God is good!

The Lord is kind and shows mercy. He does not become angry quickly but is full of love. The Lord is good to everyone; He is merciful to all He has made. Psalm 145:8–9

Absolute Truth

How to Know the Absolute Truth

According to a study by the Barna Group, three out of four American adults believe that truth is always relative to the person and their situation.

If truth is relative there will always be culture clashes, generation gaps, and societal chaos. People trying to live together with conflicting truths.

Jesus said, “This is why I was born and came into the world: to tell people the truth. And everyone who belongs to the truth listens to me” John 18:37

Guilt

What a Good God Wants You to Know about Guilt

My worst guilt has been over something that for years I didn’t even think of as a sin and when I was convicted by the truth, it flattened me. And you know what?

The enemy immediately started whispering words to defeat me.

I hate that, don’t you?

Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. Psalm 32:5

Hypocrite

The Best and Only Way to Cure a Hypocrite

You might be a hypocrite if:

  • you expect God to forgive you but can’t forgive others.
  • you point out the sins of others while ignoring your own sins.
  • you hate anyone.
  • you don’t think you’re as bad as ______________.
  • If the log in your eye never keeps you from seeing the speck in someone else’s eye.

Or if you’re human!

Do not be shaped by this world; instead, be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you; you will know what is good and pleasing to him and what is perfect. Romans 12:2

Attitude Adjustment

What to Do When You Need an Attitude Adjustment

A very wise friend once said, “If everyone is annoying you and getting on your last nerve . . . you have to stop and think about the common denominator. Maybe the problem is you.”

How’s your attitude?

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends You and lead me along the path of everlasting life. Psalm 139:23–24

Pours Out

The Wonderful Ways God Pours Out His Goodness

Rev and I bought our first house based on price and location.

We were moving back to St. Louis after spending a year in Columbus, Ohio.

We shared our first-time home-owner enthusiasm with our friends and invited them to join us for our first walk through.

For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me. Matthew 25:35–36

5 Reasons

5 Reasons To Do Good Even When You Don’t Want To

I’m going to be perfectly honest with you, some days I just don’t want to do good. I have mornings when I get out of bed and there is simply not enough coffee to turn my mood around . . . I need help.

If you can relate, there’s good news.

“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.” ~Desmond Tutu

grief

2 Important Things You Need to Know about Grief

I don’t begin to understand why He allows some of the pain we experience. I remember pleading with Him to spare us. You may remember something similar. Now, years later, I would still prefer to have been spared . . . but I know God used it for good.

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26

exhausted

Are You Exhausted? 3 Ways to Do What You Need to Do

This is for you, the one who’s exhausted. The one who feels like they’ve poured themselves into others until there’s just nothing left.

You want to pour out love and care for others but for today . . . you are goodnessed out!

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

So at the end the month we’re right back where we began. . .

With God.

With Jesus, the living Word, God made flesh, the Way, the Truth, and the Life  – God’s goodness in human form.

And with the help of the Holy Spirit helping you and me to show God’s goodness to the people around us.

Praise God! Goodness is a gift from a loving God who gives us everything we need that His goodness might flow through us into the lives of the people around us.

Leave your prayer requests…

May we pray for you

and pray for others who have left requests.
