Hello Beautiful

Sharing is caring!

It’s Friday Friend-day, and I would like to introduce to you my friend and our editor at 5 Minutes for Faith, Barbie Swihart.

Barbie writes at My Freshly Brewed Life. She says, “I believe that each day is a freshly brewed gift from the Lord and that He has hidden treasures just waiting for us to find!”

I wish Barbie lived down the street instead of several states away, because I really would love to sit down with her over a cup of coffee. She’s the kind of friend that makes everyone feel welcomed and loved.

Her passion is sharing the love of God; wanting everyone to know the hope, rest, and encouragement of life in His presence.

I trust that as I share my life with you, you will find rest and peace in knowing that a loving God holds you in the palm of His hand. He adores you!

So, dear readers please welcome my friend, Barbie. Leave a comment for her, visit her site, and tell your friends about My Freshly Brewed Life.

Yes, I am talking to you. Oh, I know. You’re not quite sure how you feel about hearing this truth. I get it. I’ve spent my entire life learning to accept this fact – that I am beautiful. Not beauty by the world’s standards, but the beautiful me that God created.

Why is it so hard to believe that we are beautiful? God says that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, created in His image and likeness.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. (Psalm 139:14)

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27)

Sounds like beautiful perfection to me!

But somewhere along the way, we have begun to believe lies. Lies that say,

“You are stupid”.

“You’re not pretty”.

“You are a failure”.

“You’ll never be good enough”.

And the list goes on. After so many years partnering with lies, my perception of myself, and of how I believed God saw me, was so skewed that I could not allow the truth to seep into my heart.

Life isn’t always fair. We may not have had parents who knew how to speak truth and life into our hearts. Or perhaps we encountered pain, heartache and turmoil and our hearts are broken and in need of healing. Or maybe we chose to stray off the path and began to seek after the world’s standard of beauty.

It is easy to feel lost, alone and forsaken in a world where it’s a constant “meet the mark” or “measure up” mentality. But you, my beautiful friend, do not need to measure your beauty by what’s happened to you in your past, or by the standard of this world. You are beautiful. And no matter what you’ve done, or will do, you will remain beautiful.

You are worthy of this beauty. Not of your own doing, but simply because God says that you are. You have been bought with a price, redeemed by the very one who created you perfectly and beautifully in the secret place.

Will you dare to believe today that you are beautiful? The God of the universe delights in you. You may not feel beautiful today. But know that you are.

Behold, you are beautiful, my love; behold, you are beautiful; your eyes are doves. (Song of Solom 1:15)
