How to Have Fun on Inconvenience Yourself Day

Sharing is caring!

Is it even possible to inconvenience yourself and have fun at the same time? I think it is, because it's easy. This list of small ways can make it a habit.

Inconvenience yourself! Really isn’t that what you do all day everyday?

What if I told you how to have fun while inconveniencing yourself?

1. Say the following: “It’s not about me.” Now say it again, and repeat as often as necessary.

You’re probably thinking, “That wasn’t fun.”

I promise – we will get to the fun.

2. Take care of yourself – Get enough rest, start the day with prayer, eat breakfast . . . it’s almost impossible to not think about ourselves when we’re tired and hungry. So, take the time to prepare yourself to think about others.

That was a little more fun, wasn’t it?

3. Go for it – You don’t have to make huge grand gestures. Inconveniencing yourself is in the little things. In kindnesses done to bless others. The Inconvenience Yourself website says this broad concept includes:

Encouragement
Common courtesy
Good manners
Acts of kindness (they don’t have to be random)
Doing the right thing
Acknowledging the positive actions of others
Smiling
Taking responsibility for yourself
Setting a good example
Helping others
Volunteering for a cause in which you believe
Recycling and doing other things which minimize your impact on the environment
Driving courteously
Making a positive impact with your words and actions
Making someone laugh
Holding a door open for someone
Spending time with your family or significant other
Talking on your cell phone only where it won’t disturb others

4. Keep a Record of Inconveniences and a List of Blessings – No, I’m not suggesting you keep a record of wrongs, but list the reactions you get when you smile at them, the way you feel when you take cookies to a neighbor, and the way servers treat you when you say “please” and “thank-you.”

Our three-year-old grandson has a habit of breaking into spontaneous laughter when he thinks he’s not getting enough attention. We always end up giggling right along with him.

Now that’s fun! Getting attention by trying to make others happy. I think he gets it.

So, open the door for a young momma who has her arms full, smile at her and encourage her instead of criticizing her when her two-year-old throws a temper tantrum, offer to reach something off the top shelf or pick an item up off the floor, give up the closer parking spot and walk a few extra steps . . . the list could go on and on.

Don’t hide your light! Let it shine for all; let your good deeds glow for all to see, so that they will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:15-16 (TLB)

Let’s Talk: What’s your favorite way to inconvenience yourself?

Spread the word . . . imagine how wonderful it would be if everyone celebrated Inconvenience Yourself Day.

Leave your prayer requests…

May we pray for you

and stop to pray one or two of the requests listed.

  1. What a wonderful challenge for today! I like that you said it is in the little things…I’m going to keep my eyes open for ways to inconvenience myself today in order to bless others!

    Love, Joan

    1. I’m so glad Joan. I love these random holidays. Days I never knew about that make us stop and think, and maybe even take action.

  2. This is a great way to say “take care of yourself & love others.” Even more importantly, it’s a great way to say, “Love God above all else.” Yep, that’s inconvenient, but oh how they are SO worth it!

    1. Amen Kari, It’s funny how once we get it . . . we realize the blessings far and away outweigh the giving. God is so good. He wired us to love Him and love others, and we foolishly think we’re better off giving in to selfishness. When true joy comes from doing things His ways. And your right, “SO worth it.”
