Nicodemus came under a cover of darkness. He wanted to know more about Jesus. His Pharisaical peers were quickly making up their minds and rejecting the Rabbi but Nicodemus wanted to examine the Man and His teaching personally.

Jesus used the opportunity to teach Nicodemus several truths that have been foundational to our faith ever since.

“I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”

John 3:3

Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.

John 3:6

For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16

3 Truths About the Believing Jesus Saved You

  1. You must be born again. John 3:3
  2. The Holy Spirit is the giver of a born-again life. John 3:6
  3. God loves you and gave His Son to die for you! John 3:16

3 Ways to Know You Believe Jesus Saved You

1. You Seek Him Personally

Just belonging to a church or hanging out with people who say they believe will not give you or me the new birth needed to enter the Lord’s Kingdom. We must intentionally SEEK Jesus to recognize our sin and repent, and by His grace, mercy, and love receive what we need to live with faith.

2. You are Born Again by the Power of the Holy Spirit

You and I cannot enter the Kingdom of God by ourselves. No amount of good works, church attendance, or personal effort will earn God’s favor. We can only be spiritually reborn through faith and Baptism . . . the washing away of our sin and the gift of new life received as a gift of God’s grace. The blessing is at that point, His Spirit begins to work in us a desire to know God’s Word, trust His will, and obey His commands.

3. You Trust God’s Promises and Rely on the Spirit’s Power to Change

The Life Application Bibles Notes say the following about John 3:16

To “believe is more than an intellectual agreement that Jesus is God. It means to put our trust and confidence in Him believing that Jesus saved us. It is to daily put Christ in charge of our present plans and eternal destiny.

To Believe in Jesus means to look at life focused on Him, to trust Him to be with us today, and to help us face the future with an eternal perspective.

A Prayer to Believe Jesus Saved You

Father, forgive me. I’m tired of trying to do it all myself . . . tired of doing my best and still falling short of my own goals let alone Your goals for me. I am so sorry.

I need You. I trust and believe that Jesus came to die for my sins. I believe that by His death and resurrection, He restored my relationship with You, Father God. I am sorry for my self-centered selfishness and I surrender myself to You. Please empower me by Your Spirit to live each day focused on who You are and all You’ve done. Give me a hunger and thirst for Your TRUTH and give me all I need to live in obedience for Your glory. I believe Jesus saved me. I pray in His name. Amen.

Jesus is God our Savior. He came to save sinners like you and me. And by God’s grace, we can have the gift of eternal life starting right now when we believe by the power of the Holy Spirit in the One who gave His life to save us.

I used to think of faith as an act of my will and I’ve learned that it is more of a surrender of my will. It is admitting I’m a sinner in need of God’s saving grace, asking Him to work in me and change me according to His will, and wanting to SEEK and KNOW Him through His Word.

On today’s note write:

I believe Jesus saved me and I surrender myself to His love.

God bless you today and you live with the peace, contentment, and joy of believing in Jesus, the One who saved you.

  1. Faith absolutely is an act of surrender, Deb. Let us vow each day to submit to God’s will, take up our cross and follow Jesus.
    Blessings!

    1. Amen, Martha! I often think of how much we are all sacrificing when we don’t . . . the peace and joy and strength and courage He wants to give us. Praying you enjoy a beautifully blessed day!

  2. Marilyn Laite says:

Good morning Deb. I am so worried. I am a new Christian and have been house bound for the past year and a half. I read devotionals, read my Bible, do bible studies, read scripture and pray but feel unless I am baptized I will not go to live with Jesus when I die. I am 72 years old and not in the best of health. I was baptized in my early 20’s but I was not a committed Christian back then. Do you have any suggestions? I don’t have other christians I can talk to so this is very hard for me. I feel I have failed and will not reach heaven. Warm regards Marilyn

    1. Good morning, Marilyn. Thank you so much for visiting and for reaching out. Please please do not worry! God loves you and from your words, it is clear that you love Him. I believe we are saved by grace through faith.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” Ephesians 2:8 I also believe that Baptism is God’s gift of grace to us. It is not something we do for Him it is His washing of new birth given to us. “You were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him, you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. Colossians 2:12–13

You have been baptized and even though your faith may have been weak at that time . . . it may be one of the very things that God used in your life to begin drawing you closer to Him through the power of the Holy Spirit. God loves you and has promised you that you are saved through faith by His grace, mercy, and love. Be assured, He is with you and you are His own child. Please don’t worry. Rejoice and rest in His promises. God bless you!

The God of all understanding knows us, He loves us and guides us by the power of the Holy Spirit. We don’t have to worry about our past….as long as we repent and change our ways, we are forgiven. By His cross and resurrection, we are washed clean and set free. We are SAVED! Blessings Deb and thank you.
