You Need to Listen to Jesus’ Truth If You Want Freedom

Who decides what is right and what is wrong?

Is it the law? Does making something “legal” make it right?

The Pharisees came to Jesus to trap Him with a question .

“Should a man be allowed to divorce his wife?”

Mark 10:2

And Jesus uses the question to talk about a bigger and deeper issue . . . one that is necessary for every one of us to address.

You see, the Pharisees were looking at this from a “legal” perspective when they should have been looking at it from a “spiritual” one . . . from God’s perspective.

Jesus answered their question this way…

This commandment [was written] only as a concession to your hard hearts. But ‘God made them male and female’ from the beginning of creation. ‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.’

Mark 10:5–8a

God made men and women to compliment each other, to love and respect, to help, to be united.

We, sinful people, are the ones who have messed up God’s plan. And now that we have, we believe that making things “legal” makes them acceptable.

So, here’s the real question…

How should you and I decide what is right and what is wrong?

Should we listen to the legal voices that say it’s okay to kill babies and deny God’s genetic creation or the spiritual truth of God’s Word? Truth that invites us to trust Him and experience life in all its fullness (John 10:10), freedom (John 8:32), peace (John 14:27), hope (Matthew 12:21), and love (John 1:17).

God wants so much for us that He invites us to stop listening to the loud shouts of those who demand a “legal” view of the world and enjoy the blessings of LISTENing to and TRUSTing Jesus’ truth.

God whispers and the world is loud. If you and I want to enjoy the freedom of God's love we need to know, trust, and obey Jesus' truth. #BibleStudy #Faith #Hope #CountingMyBlessings #Blessings #WWGGG

A Prayer to Listen to Jesus’ Truth

Father, I confess that I have occasionally listened to the wrong voices. So often, You whisper as the world around me is so very loud and demanding. Please forgive me.

I want to KNOW JESUS’ TRUTH. I want to obey Your will. I want to read and study Your Word until I carry its truth deep within my heart and mind. I want to experience life in all its fullness, peace, hope, joy, and love.

I love You, Lord. Because of Your grace, I am forgiven and given the promise of life forever with You. Thank you for Jesus, the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE! By the power of Your Spirit, help me courageously apply Jesus’ truth to every area of my life and love You and others the way You want. And may I live this day and every day for Your glory. Amen.

Friend, I believe God offers His grace to everyone. I believe He wants us to love one another . . . even those with whom we don’t agree. I believe we are ALL sinners in need of His grace and mercy. These are words spoken by Jesus as truth.

I also believe that we don’t have to agree with everything that is determined “legal” to love others.

We are called to love, to pray, to reflect God’s love and invite people to know Jesus’ truth that they might also experience life in all its fullness.

On today’s note write:

With God’s help, I will KNOW, TRUST, and FOLLOW Jesus’ TRUTH.

God bless you as you SEEK to KNOW and LIVE the blessings of Jesus’ TRUTH.

We would love to pray for you.

  1. Yes, Deb, there are so many contradictory voices out there vying for our attention. Let us be still, and listen for God’s truth in Jesus. That will guide us on a sure path.
    Blessings!

    1. Amen, Martha! Praying you have a beautifully blessed day!

Your words are Spirit filled….thank you for them today. We all need to know and live by God’s truth, applying it in our everyday lives and seeking Him. The world is full if distractions and they drown out the still small voice, where God speaks to us. When we are still, He is there. Lord bless us all this day, forgive us when we ignore you and fail to hear you. Holy Spirit fill our hearts with the truth and guide us on our journey.

    God bless you Deb.

  4. I center myself by always asking… is this man or God…God is always the answer no matter what and how man tries to sell their propaganda… I stay away from what their selling when it doesn’t come from above…love this post God honest post- Thank you

    1. What a great question, Lily! It’s one we should ask ourselves faithfully. We can only know His truth if we SEEK His Kingdom, His will, and His heart while discerning and rejecting the lies with the help of His Spirit. Thanks so much for being part of the conversation! God be with you!

  5. I loooved this post today Deb! And I so agree that making things legal, doesn’t make it right! So many things that have become legal and “okay” or “right” I can’t even wrap my mind around them. It saddens me that our world has become such a horrible place and God is being mocked. I think about the children and what it will be like for them, when they are adults…I pray for the world and for all those who have turned their backs on the Man that gave His life, so they might live. And your prayers are always so very beautiful. Thank you for the light that you are to me. Sweet Blessings, my Sister in Christ.

    1. Thank you, Kathy! I keep praying that the Lord will raise up a revival of faithful followers who shine the light of His truth to a world that needs His so very much! God bless you!

Hi Deb, thank you for that message because the world we are now is not the real one as we have lost our eyes of the heart and grown blinded eyes.I can see the God of Abraham ,Isaac and Jacob is communicating to us through so many signs for example earthquakes, locusts, drought and worshiping of others things that does not concern the living and ever loving God.i really pray for Gods intervention to all that is happening now especially Covid 19 disease and more so our children in their time of adulthood; how would they be surviving in this world.prayers should flow all through our life time.

    1. I too see God’s hand in so much that is going on in the world. It is why I believe it’s so important for us to keep our focus on Him and do our best to shine the light of His love. I keep praying that His children will shine so brightly that everyone will want what we have in Christ Jesus. God bless you!
