How to LIVE Every Day of Your Life

I want to live every day of my life.

I don’t want to give up and I don’t want to quit.

By God’s grace and with His help I want to live my purpose each day He gives me breath.

I used to tie my purpose to my job. You know, being an excellent wife, great mom, good teacher . . . all performance connected.

But what if for some reason I could no longer do those things, would I suddenly lose my purpose? What if I became ill or disabled—what then?

For me, living every day means that if God gives me a day—He has a reason.

So, for me to live every day I had to find my God-given purpose, one that goes beyond my identity or my ability to perform.

Last year I wrote and shared my Personal Mission Statement, I wanted to put my purpose down on paper and use it to live intentionally.

In a nutshell, my mission is –  Love the Lord God with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength and love my neighbor as I love myself. Mark 12:30–31

Spelled out – To love God completely with all my mind and my emotions and spending time every day in prayer and Bible study. To get enough rest, eat a healthy diet, and exercise so I’ll have strength to love and care for the people in my life. To never stop learning, spend face to face time with friends and family and treat everyone (even me) with kindness and forgiveness. To celebrate each day’s blessings and glorify God with gratitude for His loving care. I will do this with God’s help and by His grace.

How does life look when I live my purpose following my mission statement?

With God’s help:

• I spend time being still with His each day.
• I love my husband by affirming, respecting, and helping him.
• I love my children and grandchildren encouraging them.
• I love my father and extended family by helping them as I am able.
• I can love anyone God puts in my path by being kind, caring, and compassionate.
• I can love myself by taking care of myself mentally and physically.

Love – we toss the word around like it’s simple, but it’s not. It’s muddy and complicated. In my heart, even in my mind, I want to love God with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength.

But . . . my selfish sinful nature gets in the way.

I want to love my neighbor . . . the people, all people as I love myself.

But . . . my selfish sinful nature gets in the way.

I want to love myself the way God loves me.

But . . . my sinful selfish nature doesn’t even let me do that well.

And that, my friend, is the reason I need to spend time being still with Him every day.

When I’m still with Him:

• I ask Him to forgive my selfishness.
• I ask Him to strengthen me and help me love like Jesus.
• I ask Him to help me see myself and others the way He sees us.
• I ask Him to show me His plans and help me trust Him, follow, and obey.

And because He is love, He teaches me through His word:

I am your shepherd.

The Lord is my shepherd; I have everything I need. He lets me rest in green pastures. He leads me to calm water. He gives me new strength. He leads me on paths that are right for the good of His name. Psalm 23:1–3

You can trust me.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5–6

My love is unfailing. I will safely lead you.

Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to You. Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God. May Your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing. Psalm 143:8,10

I will guide you and watch over you.

The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Psalm 32:8

My Spirit will lead you and prepare you.

When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own but will tell you what He has heard. He will tell you about the future. John 16:13

You and I have a loving Father, who leads us every day to love well. And us all we need to do so.

To love Him with heart, soul, mind, and strength.To love others as ourselves. And to love ourselves . . . not selfishly, but with humble care.

By His grace and with His help you and I can love . . . whatever our circumstances. That for me is living His purpose in my life. And when I am still in His presence, I ask Him to show me the specifics for that day.

Remember, your purpose goes beyond your identity or activity. Your purpose is the reason you are here at this time and place. The reason your eyes opened and you have air in your lungs.

Today is the perfect day to sit in stillness and ask God to reveal your purpose and show you His plans. It’s time to live every day of your life.
