I was taught Biblical truths and values at home when I was growing up. And looking back, it seems remarkable that those truths and values were reinforced everywhere I went. In my neighborhood, at school, by most politicians, and much of what we watched for entertainment by and large all encouraged those same Biblical values. Rev says, he even remembers starting each day in his public school with the teachers leading the class in praying the Lord’s Prayer and saying the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States.

It’s true, not everyone was a Christian but culture and society in general made it comfortable for those of us who were followers of Jesus.

In many ways, those days seem long gone. Around the globe the persecution of Christians is intensifying. In the U.S., we are witnessing the expression of many of our Biblical values being classified as “hate speech.” And many Christian leaders are predicting attacks on Christian truths, teachings, and Christians themselves will keep escalating.

Speaking the truth is taking more and more faith and courage all the time.

In Acts 5, Peter and the apostles were facing the same people who had crucified Jesus, the Savior. Speaking the truth could lead to their crucifixion as well. They had been arrested the day before, miraculously freed by an “angel of the Lord,” and then arrested again to stand before the same High Priest and High Council that had condemned Jesus.

And the High Priest said,

“We gave you strict orders never again to teach in this man’s name!”

Acts 5:28

Peter responded,

We must obey God rather than any human authority.

Acts 5:29

You and I have a choice to make. The world would have us be like many of the people who were afraid and silenced at the time of Jesus:

But no one had the courage to speak favorably about him in public, for they were afraid of getting in trouble with the Jewish leaders.

John 7:13

The truth is . . . we have been called to live with faith and courage!

A Prayer to Live Boldly with Faith and Courage

Father, forgive us . . . forgive me. I know that I have at times been pressured into silence when I should have spoken up. I know that I have been persuaded by opinions when I want to boldly stand with faith and courage on Your truth. I am so sorry and ask You to give me the strength I need. Help me faithfully SEEK the truth of Your Word that I might know and follow Your will each day.

Jesus said that You want us to Ask, Seek, and Knock that we might grow in faith. So, today I ask You to help me trust You more and more. I love You, Lord, and I want to love You with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. Please make me a faithful SEEKer of Your promises and Your will. And help me pray without ceasing . . . knocking on the throne room of mercy and grace in the name of Jesus.

Please give me the courage I need to speak the truth. Help me boldly share my faith and shine the light of Your love in a way that people want to listen and maybe even want to KNOW You because they desire the peace, joy, hope, and love that You have given me. Fill me with Your Spirit and bless me by Your grace. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

One thing I know for sure . . . on my own I can’t do this. On my own I’m weak and timid and boldly sharing my faith with courage is impossible.

But with God…

“Everything is possible.

Matthew 19:26

With the help of His Holy Spirit – we can KNOW, TRUST, and “obey God rather than any human authority.”

On today’s note write:

With God’s help, I will live boldly with faith and courage.

May He bless you today and give you everything you need to trust His promises and speak His truth.

We would love to pray for you.

  1. Only with God’s help can we speak boldly to a world that has turned a deaf ear to the message of Jesus’ saving grace and love. May the Lord give us all courage!
    Blessings, Deb!

    1. May He give us everything we need to be bold and courageous in faith. Blessings be with you, my friend!

  2. Thanks, Deb, for your challenging and inspiring reminder. My word for 2021 is ‘courage’ and it comes up in all different contexts. God is working on me! I also need Gods help to share His truth.

    1. What a wonderful word God gave you for this year. I think many of us could use His help in that area. I know I can! Thanks so much for stopping by. God bless you!

We are all called to witness in God’s truth and to boldly proclaim it. Give me the courage to step out in faith. I surrender my imperfect self and ask the Holy Spirit to transform me. Let me do your will and not mine – all I ask for is your LOVE and GRACE – that is enough for me.
Thank you Deb for shining your light and sharing with us the words from scripture to enlighten us.

    1. Thank you, Angela! I feel so blessed to be able to do this and write what I need to “hear” myself. I’m always thankful when it blesses someone else. God be with you!
