Freedom – Are You a Pharisee? Questions that will Help You Know

Rules keep things orderly and simple. Do this. Don’t do that. Just follow the rules! But digging deeper into faith, I wonder if...

I tend to be a follower which makes me wonder if I have some inner Pharisee going on too. I’m okay with the Law. I like rules. Rules keep things orderly and simple. Do this. Don’t do that. Just follow the rules!

But digging deeper into faith, I wonder if…

It’s not about how we worship, but about who we worship.
It’s not about how well we obey, but why we obey.
It’s not about living right, but living with love.
It’s not about avoiding consequences, but about loving the Lord.

So, I came up with a dozen questions to challenge my inner Pharisee.

Love –  25 of the Best Ways to Love Yourself God’s Way

If you Google “love yourself” you’ll find a plethora of thoughts on the subject . . . some good, some not.

I don’t know about you, but I struggle with the idea of self-love. If you Google “love yourself” you’ll find a plethora of thoughts on the subject . . . some good, some not.

You don’t have to tell little children to love themselves. They are comfortable in their own skin. They know when they’re hungry, tired, and when they need comfort and nurturing.

So, what exactly is loving yourself God’s way? Click over to the list of 25 ways with a free printable to help you remember.

Wisdom –  5 Verses to Pray when You Need Wisdom

You're tired. You've done it your way long enough. You're ready for a change, but how? You know you need wisdom. These 5 verses and prayers will help.

You’re tired. You’ve done it your way long enough. You’re ready for a change, but how?

Jesus’ brother, James wrote:

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. James 1:5

So, I asked God to help me. I turned to His Word and prayer, and I asked Him to give me upfront wisdom . . . ready for the challenge, up to the test—wisdom.

I found 5 verses we can add to our War Room walls to help us.

Prayer – 10 Ways to Focus and Make Prayer more Meaningful

Life is noisy and fast. You have dozens of ideas bouncing around in your head. Concentration takes intentional effort and discipline. This is especially true during prayer

Life is noisy and fast. You have dozens of ideas bouncing around in your head. Concentration takes intentional effort and discipline.

This is especially true during prayer.

I can have the best intentions to spend time with the Lord in prayer – but when I pray for Ann, I start to think about Bobby or something that happened last week, or last month, or years ago. And suddenly I realize I haven’t prayed for the last ten minutes.

So, I came up with some things that are helping me stay focused and make prayer more meaningful

Humility – 12 Truths about God that will Make You Humble

The measure of humility in your life and mine will always be in direct proportion to what we believe to be the truths about God.

The measure of humility in your life and mine will always be in direct proportion to what we believe to be the truths about God.

Simply put – greater God equals lesser me.

And…

You are loved my friend with immeasurable love by an awesome God.

Patience – Helpful Ways to Wait on God When You Don’t Want To

God’s patience with me doesn’t depend on my ability to wait well. He always meets every need in His perfect timing. Always has and I trust He always will.

Rev and I have waited on God more often than I can count. Some times were easier than others. Some times we waited well, other times not so much.

Thankfully, God’s patience with me doesn’t depend on my ability to wait well. He always meets every need in His perfect timing. Always has and I trust He always will.

So, I came up with a list of dos and don’ts for waiting seasons.

Stillness – 15 of the Best Ways to Enjoy a Balanced Life

“Balance is not better time management, but better boundary management. Balance means making choices and enjoying those choices.”

It’s hard to balance work, play, rest, eat a balanced diet, exercise regularly and find time to just be still.

With God’s help you and I can:

  • have balanced emotions when life seems out of control.
  • eat a balanced diet and get regular exercise.
  • organize our schedules to get enough rest, find time to play, and work.

Goodness – The Truth About Being Yoked You Can’t Avoid

You and I are relational. We crave connectedness. So, we will always attach to someone or something . . . maybe even several someones or somethings. Jesus called it being yoked.

You and I are relational. We crave connectedness. So, we will always attach to someone or something . . . maybe even several someones or somethings. Jesus called it being yoked.

And once we become followers of Jesus, it’s up to us whether we are yoked to slavery or freedom.

Jesus knew we would be yoked. He created us. He made us relational with an empty place we need to fill. And He offered freedom and rest. An easy yoke and a light burden.

Peace – 7 Powerful Verses that will Give You God’s Peace

These 7 verses are the ones I hold close when I need to remember God’s peace even when life is hard.

If you’d known me a little over a decade ago, you’d have said I was the last person in the world who should be talking about peace.

I was diagnosed with high anxiety depression, living in a constant state of agitation and worry.

Peace always seemed like it was just beyond my reach. I knew my lack of peace was a faith issue, but the truth about life’s “trials and sorrows” pushed the possibility of peace right out the door.

Worship – 12 Simple Ways to Worship God Every Day

I wanted to find simple ways to add worship to my daily routine. Click over to find out the 12 things I'm using to help make worship and integral part of my life.

“Since the days of our first parents in the Garden of Eden, worship has walked a tightrope between lifestyle and liturgy.” ~David Jeremiah

Gratitude – 10 of the Best Ways to Thank God

You and I know God wants us to thank and praise Him but I sometimes wonder if I'm thanking Him the ways He wants. The Bible gives us best ways to thank God.

We know God wants us to thank and praise Him but I sometimes wonder if I’m thanking Him the ways He wants.

I start my prayers with thank you and praise Him for who He is and what He does but are words enough.

David wrote:

Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High. Psalm 50:14

Honestly, words don’t feel like much of a sacrifice. I can say “thank you” so easily and then just as easily go back to living in ways that don’t seem very thankful. So, for The Faith Project, I went digging to find the best ways to live with gratitude.

Joy – 7 of the Best Ways to Know the Joy of Jesus

I want joy that goes deep into the heart and soul dwelling in the presence of God Himself. Joy that grabs settles in and reminds me . . . no matter what is going on in my life "it is well with my soul."

I’m curious, which Faith Project theme has been your favorite? Which one do you find the most challenging?

Keep digging deep and leaning into Jesus – the author and perfecter of our faith.

Let us look only to Jesus, the One who began our faith and who makes it perfect. He suffered death on the cross. But he accepted the shame as if it were nothing because of the joy that God put before him. And now he is sitting at the right side of God’s throne. Hebrews 12:2
