My Prayer at the Foot of the Cross

Father, At the foot of the cross - I am overwhelmed by grief. "Father, forgive them for they don't know what they are doing."Luke 23:34
Father, At the foot of the cross –

I am overwhelmed by grief.

At the foot of the cross –

I am broken and ashamed.

I hear my Savior cry out –

“Father, forgive them for they don’t know what they are doing.”Luke 23:34

I think, I could never have betrayed, denied, or murdered my Lord. Then
I remember that because of my sin I was the reason the crowd shouted –
“Crucify Him.”

I hear His promise to the thief beside Him –

“I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
Luke 23:43

I receive the promise of my eternal home and I am given
undeserved hope.

I am the guilty thief in need of mercy.

I hear Him thinking of others even in His own suffering.

“Jesus said to His mother: “Woman, this is your son”.
Then He said to the disciple: “This is your mother.”
John 19:26-27

I am humbled by my Savior’s concern for those He loves . . .
ever compassionate, ever caring, ever providing.
I am reminded to follow His example.

I hear Him cry out broken and alone.

‘My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me.”
Matthew 27:46

I am wrenched with sorrow. Jesus, Your Son and my Lord,
suffered agony outside of Your presence so that
I would never have to know a moment away from You.

I am unable to fully comprehend, and thankful I will never have to know.

I hear Him suffer the physical pain of humanity.

“I thirst.”
John 19:28

I am comforted with the truth that Emmanuel, God with us,
knows my frailty. There is nothing I can experience that is
outside of His ability to understand.
I am thankful, so very thankful.

I hear Him declare His mission’s end.

“It is finished”;
and He bowed His head and handed over the spirit.

John 19:30

I am quiet Father. It’s hard to breathe. All around me I hear the quiet
sobs of those who love Him. I listen. Tears run down my cheeks.
I am sorry. I am so very sorry.

I hear Him surrender Himself to You, Father. His mission complete.
The perfect sacrifice fulfilled.

Jesus cried out in a loud voice,
“Father, into your hands I commend my spirit”

Luke 23:46

There is hope at the foot of the cross.
I am strengthened with the truth that no one took His life.
He willingly became the sacrifice for my sin, laying down His life to give me
life, to restore me to You forever and always.

I am surrendered at the foot of the cross . . .
purchased by the blood of the Lamb.

I am loved at the foot of the cross . . .
equipped to love others and to show them Your glory
at the foot of the cross.

  1. It was 3;30 and I googled prayer at the foot of the cross. I found you and knew it was my Heavenly Father leading me. I accepted Jesus in 1986 made him Lord of my life but got lost in Religion and it cost me everything. Religion leads to shipwrecked faith but the foot of the cross is our anchor. A relationship with him leads to life peace and restoration from dead faith. Jesus says I am the way the truth and the life,no man comes to the Father but by me.
Thank you Deb for your obedience and love for the lost. Truly your a beacon in this dark world.

    1. Diane, thank you so much for visiting and for stopping to leave this kind word of encouragement. I am so glad you have found peace and healing in Jesus. His grace overwhelms me. It’s transforming power has been a miracle in my life. Thanks again and God bless you!

  2. Let the cross of Jesus lead me to my destination because I know it’s here where God promised to take all my curse and leave for me the blessings
