10 Verses and How to Know the Pure Joy of Jesus

Sharing is caring!

10 verses to sum up the hope you and I have in Jesus. Hope that gives pure joy. What 10 verses would you choose to share the hope and joy of Jesus?

When was the last time you laughed for pure joy because of Jesus?

This week, I’ve worried about how I’m going to have everything ready in just a little over a week. What should I buy that hard to shop for someone to show them how important they are to my heart? Will I have the house ready and the food prepared?

How will I keep up with this space with all the other demands on my mind and my time?

And that’s just a look at my own “stuff.” When I scroll through social media and I see friends struggling with big problems concerns or I watch the news and get that sinking unsettled feeling wondering what is wrong with the world.

Hmmmm. That says it doesn’t it. The world.

The World is Broken

Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

Whatever is going on in your life today . . . stop with me for a few minutes and remember how Jesus overcame a broken world.

People are Broken.

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Romans 3:23

Like it or not, this world is a mess because people are sinners. The news shouldn’t surprise us. Problems shouldn’t catch us off-guard. We live in a world full of flawed and broken people.

People Jesus came to save.

Jesus Came for Broken People in a Broken World.

The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’). Isaiah 7:14

The angel said to Mary, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will cover you. For this reason, the baby will be holy and will be called the Son of God. Luke 1:35

Can you imagine that conversation? Angel and teenage girl.

Mary knew the promise well and this angel is telling God has chosen her. Wow!

And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped Him snugly in strips of cloth and laid Him in a manger because there was no lodging available for them. Luke 2:6–7

I can’t get my brain around it.

God humbled Himself and joined the human family. Not to live in luxury but to live without the creature comforts you and I so quickly take for granted.

Why? Simply because He chose to . . . for love.

Jesus Ministered to Broken People in a Broken World.

Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And He healed every kind of disease and illness. Matthew 9:35

Teacher. Healer. Giver of truth.

Pilate said, “So you are a king?”

Jesus responded, “You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.” John 18:37

Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”

Still, there were those who found His truth too hard to hear. Whether it was ego, tradition or simply the battle for souls . . . broken people turned against Him.

The Father had put into motion the sacrifice that would win the battle once and for all.

Jesus Died for Broken People in a Broken World

Jesus said, “It is finished!” Then He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. John 19:30

Suffering. Death. Sacrifice. All because of love.

But that wasn’t the end of God’s plan.

Jesus Lives for Broken People in a Broken World

Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as He said would happen. Come, see where His body was lying. Matthew 28:5–6

His plan included life. Victory. Souls won for all eternity.

Jesus resurrection changed everything . . . offering healing and hope.

Jesus is with Broken People in a Broken World

Jesus came and told His disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth… And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Matthew 28:20

Although Jesus’ resurrected body has returned to heaven, His Spirit remains…

You and I are never alone. Jesus is with you showing you the way, teaching you the truth, and giving you life.

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6

And when the time is right…

Jesus will Come to Take us Home

There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. John 14:2–3

There is a room for you beyond this broken world and Jesus promised to come and personally take you there. Whatever difficulty you may be facing won’t last. This is temporary.

Your home is with Jesus . . .  a home that will last forever.

One verse sums up the hope you and I have in Jesus. Hope that gives pure joy. What 10 verses would you choose to share the hope and joy of Jesus?

Jesus is the Gospel of Pure Joy

Like John 3:16 – “God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son so that whoever believes in Him may not be lost, but have eternal life.

These verses are just a small snapshot of the reasons you and I can laugh for pure joy because of Jesus. It’s just a peek at God’s promises fulfilled.

They are the verses I hold close when I need to remember the many blessings I have in Jesus.

When I’m worried or afraid, lonely or overwhelmed . . . whatever I’m going through, the love of Jesus is greater. And that is pure joy.

“To be in Christ is the source of the Christian’s life; to be like Christ is the sum of His excellence; to be with Christ is the fullness of His joy.” ~Charles Hodge

So, let me ask you once again…

When is the last time you laughed for pure joy because of Jesus?

  2. If we truly entered into that astounding truth that God entered into our brokenness in a body, it could occupy our thoughts completely! What a gift! And what a reason for rejoicing!

  3. Yes, Deb, we should all be laughing out loud, full of joy that Jesus loves us so much. Thanks for brightening my day with your words!

  4. Deb- I don’t think I’ve ever laughed with pure joy. Gosh that must be insulting to God! He is done so much for me and my brokenness! Obviously I need to pray about this;) I also need to be more still and less frazzled!
I pinned the verses to go through them!
    Have a wonderful Christmas!

  5. Hi Deb,

  6. Deb,
As I was reading your post the old song “People Need The Lord” just keeps going through my head. Your post and the song are both filled with the message that people are broken and need Jesus. It’s an old message that still rings true today. Thanks for the post and list of scriptures.
