The Best Way to Talk About God and Share Your Faith

Sharing is caring!

There is someone who needs to hear your life-changing story and your love for the God who is who He says He is.

I will never forget the day I proudly proclaimed, “my God is…”

In all honesty, I may have even said, “I need my God to be…”

It happened many years ago, but I still remember it like it was yesterday. I was in an intense discussion about God’s characteristics and qualities. As a long-time student of the Bible, I was passionate about the information and faith that inspired my side of the conversation.

I went home confident I’d been a true defender of God and His character.

Until later…

When God whispered in His quiet tender voice, “Deb, I’m not who you say I am…”

“I am who I say I am.”

It’s amazing how His gentle whisper can knock the pride right out of me!

I sat there quietly wondering how often I had misrepresented Him as I modified the infinite all-knowing, all-present, all-powerful God because of my finite and limited understanding making Him who I wanted Him to be not who He is.

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8–9

Since then, I continue to be humbled and convinced I will never completely understand God this side of heaven.

And that’s okay.

It’s a truth that keeps me asking, seeking and knocking.

My desire to know Him more continues to inspire me to read and study the Bible and pray faithfully and it humbles me to listen carefully to His Spirit’s wisdom and guidance.

My prayer is that through asking, seeking and knocking my love and trust for Him will flourish.

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

Now, this next part is important!

You and I can be tempted to keep quiet about our faith because we’re afraid of being wrong or misleading someome.

But that doesn’t mesh with Jesus command to “go and tell.”

Jesus sent him home, saying,“No, go back to your family, and tell them everything God has done for you.” So he went all through the town proclaiming the great things Jesus had done for him. Luke 8:38b–39

That’s it . . . using every opportunity to tell others what God has done in my life, about the countless times He has forgiven me, held me close, given me strength, and shown me a better way.

However, I will also be careful not to share my thoughts with an “I know God and all about Him” attitude. Because what if I’m wrong?

What if I misunderstood? What if my understanding of who He is comes from some twisting of His truth? What if my “this is who He is” words are misunderstood by the hearer? What if who I say God is . . . causes someone else to stumble.

That’s humbling.

Yet we can’t stay silent because…

But how can they call on Him if they have not put their trust in Him? And how can they put their trust in Him if they have not heard of Him? And how can they hear of Him unless someone tells them? Romans 10:14 (NLV)

It’s a humbling fine line to walk, isn’t it?

There is someone who needs to hear your life-changing story and your love for the God who is who He says He is.

♥ Your Story

Every day of your life has been preparation for this moment. A story uniquely yours!

I love telling people about my life after fear and how transformational it’s been to surrender my people-pleasing good girl prison. Whew.

We don’t have to talk about who God is, we just need to tell them about the blessing of knowing Him and invite them to ask, seek, and knock so they can know the One who is love, who offers grace, mercy, and gives a peace that goes beyond anything we can understand or imagine.

The One who is personal intimate love, willing to whisper to get our attention when we are misinformed and misguided.

  1. Wow, you are right, so very humbling! I am trying to be less fearful and more loud and proud with my faith. Sharing all that Jesus has done for me. But it is very frightening! I definitely do not want to cause someone else to stumble!
