15 Reasons to be Thankful for Jesus

My heart's desire is to really know Jesus. Not who I want Him to be or believe He should be but who He is . . . so I found 15 reasons to be thankful for Jesus.

I sometimes wonder if we might not have a distorted view of Jesus. If we mold Him into who we think He is or who we want Him to be not who He really is.

There are people want a warm and fuzzy Jesus. Someone who overlooks sin and makes them feel good about themselves.

Others want a table-turning legalistic Jesus, who helps them justify their self-righteous angry outbursts and agrees with their judgment of “real” sinners.

Some people want a Jesus who will make them happy and prosperous.

And others want a Jesus who agrees with them politically.

Who is Jesus?

More important…

Who is Jesus to you?

My heart’s desire is to really know Jesus. Not who I want Him to be or believe He should be but who He is . . . the God in flesh Savior I so desperately need.

I’ve been guilty at times of making Jesus too small or molded my thoughts of Him into what I wanted or thought I needed at the time.

God and I have had several talks about it. I’ve confessed and repented of my selfish foolishness.

I also know I will never make Jesus big enough this side of heaven.

I can’t possibly understand the One who is the creator of everything, needs nothing, and loves everyone. The One who hates sin so much He died to rescue us from its death sentence consequence.

The God who is all-powerful, all-knowing, and present everywhere and the man who put on flesh . . . to save a lost creation. Fully God and fully man. The ‘I AM.”

The more I learn about Jesus, the less qualified I feel to talk about Him. Yet telling people about Jesus is my passion.

So, I will stumble over my words and insufficiently point to Him because I have to tell people about all He has done in my life.

He has removed my fear and replaced it with courage, strength, peace, and contentment. He has given me hope, shown me love, and blessed me in countless ways.

My heart's desire is to really know Jesus. Not who I want Him to be or believe He should be but who He is . . . so I found 15 reasons to be thankful for Jesus.

I love how David put it in Psalm 23.

The Lord is my shepherd; I have everything I need.
He lets me rest in green pastures. He leads me to calm water.
He gives me new strength.
He leads me on paths that are right for the good of His name.
Even if I walk through a very dark valley,
I will not be afraid because you are with me.
Your rod and your shepherd’s staff comfort me.

You prepare a meal for me in front of my enemies.
You pour oil of blessing on my head; you fill my cup to overflowing.
Surely your goodness and love will be with me all my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.

If I just focus on those words 24/7, I have all the reasons I ever need to be thankful for Jesus.

But I wanted to dig a little deeper and get even more specific.

So, I found…

15 Biblical Reasons to be Thankful for Jesus

Jesus is love.

I loved you as the Father loved me. Now remain in my love. John 15:9

Jesus left heaven and became human.

“For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do my own will. For it is my Father’s will that all who see his Son and believe in Him should have eternal life. I will raise them up at the last day.” John 6:38,40

Jesus shows us who God is.

Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through Him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. Colossians 1:15–16

My heart's desire is to really know Jesus. Not who I want Him to be or believe He should be but who He is . . . so I found 15 reasons to be thankful for Jesus.

Jesus died for our sins.

Christ Himself suffered for sins once. He was not guilty, but He suffered for those who are guilty to bring you to God. His body was killed, but He was made alive in the Spirit. 1 Peter 3:18

Jesus freed us from legalism.

So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law. Galatians 5:1

Jesus hears our prayers.

With Jesus as our high priest, we can feel free to come before God’s throne where there is grace. There we receive mercy and kindness to help us when we need it. Hebrews 4:16

Jesus prays for us.

Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us. Romans 8:34

Jesus gives strength.

Jesus will keep you strong until the end so that there will be no wrong in you on the day our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. 1 Corinthians 1:8

Jesus is Truth.

Jesus answered, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is through me. John 14:6

The law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. John 1:17

Jesus is peace.

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7

Jesus will never stop loving you and me.

Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? 25 Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 7:24–25

Jesus gives victory.

But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:57

Jesus is preparing a place in heaven for us.

There are many rooms in my Father’s house; I would not tell you this if it were not true. I am going there to prepare a place for you. John 14:2

Jesus will never leave us.

“And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20

Jesus will return for us.

After I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me so that you may be where I am. John 14:3

And these are just the beginning.

There are infinite reasons to be thankful for Jesus. So, I want to invite you to grab a Bible and get to know Him better. Not just in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John but Genesis through Revelation. Jesus is found in every book through promises made and promises kept.

“The salvation that was expected in the Old Testament is exhibited in the Gospels and then explained in the rest of the New Testament.” ~ Dr. James Boyce, OnePlace.

My favorite is to read the Bible in chronological order. I’m currently following a daily reading plan on the Bible Gateway App.

Whatever your reading plan . . . just get to know Jesus . . . not who you want Him to be or who other people say He is. Get to know Him through the power of the Spirit as you study the Word.

Because…

The more you get to know Him the more thankful you will be for Him.

Leave your prayer requests…

May we pray for you

and stop to pray one or two of the requests listed.

  8. Hi Deb!! ☺
I am from Europe too! Wow, it’s amazing to see that your lovely and encouraging blog posts are reaching other continents as well!
That’s an amazing way to share the love of Christ to the world!! I am 16 year older and I’m from Portugal. And it’s super hard for me to talk about my faith. Since I am a teenager most of the time its very dificult to be in Christ- to much doubts and emotions going on. And lots of anxiety. But is encouraging to see that the journey has changed you and other people and I see that is possible to love God with everything we got and be at peace and happy as we live here. I hope that it might be my reality on thay.
    Much hugs for you!!
And may God bless you and other readers with so much more than our minds can expect.

    1. Oh, Rita, you made my day! Thank you so much for visiting and for stopping to say ‘hello.’ I love how the Lord is working in and through you. When I think back to being a teen you described it perfectly. Doubt, overflowing emotions, and lots of anxiety. But with Jesus, the journey is blessed and filled with hope. Stay strong dear girl. He is walking with you, and many of us are cheering you on. God bless you!

  9. What an amazing list to bring peace, hope, and joy! I am so thankful for our Jesus that loves us beyond what we can ever imagine!Thank you, sweet friend, for sharing at #MomentsofHope!

    1. Thank you, Lori! My prayer this month and into the new year is to stay focused on Him. No matter what is going on around me He is my foundation, hope, and joy. Blessings to you!!

  10. Barbara Frohne says:

We just celebrated Thanksgiving. Before this lovely family holiday, I heard people complaining that some were listening to Christmas music already. I thought about it. I can kind of understand that they want their holidays separated and not touching, kind of like some kids who don’t want their peas to touch their spaghetti.

Jesus is the reason for Christmas. I love Jesus. He is the greatest gift to the world I think we should focus on Jesus all year round, not just in December. So why not make Jesus the focus of Thanksgiving too.

This year, I want to think every day about why I am thankful for Jesus, every day between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I may even blog about it. I wondered if anyone else has done the same. As I looked around, online, I was delighted to find your list of reasons you are thankful for Jesus.

May you have an extra special Christmas season this year.

    Blessings, Barbara

    1. I completely agree, Barbara! I used to wait until after Thanksgiving to move into Christmas but I was excited and ready to add the enthusiasm of anticipation, decorating, and Christmas music early this year. And it’s been great. I want to celebrate every day! We are free in Jesus and I want to praise God and lift up Jesus every moment of my life. I’m free from holiday rules and able to focus on the Jesus, my reason for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thank you so much! God bless you!

  11. Don’t know how i will recover from my weakness. I have lost my all hope ,confident and dream ..hope god wont leave my hand in between. Thank you so much for your blessings words deb.
