Jesus is the Best News Ever. What's makes that true? Just because a few people say so or is it a message of truth to celebrate with joy? #LawandGospel #Jesus #GodLovesYou #CountingMyBlessings

What’s the best news you’ve ever gotten?

A dream job offer? A marriage proposal? A positive pregnancy test? A call from the adoption agency? An accepted home offer? A college admission letter? __________?

There are two main teachings in the Bible.

And Paul uses the early chapters of Romans to emphasize both. Yesterday we focused on the fact that everyone has sinned and because we are sinners . . . we all deserve to be judged and punished by a holy and just God. That’s The Law, one of the main messages of the Bible

Yet, the One who created us and sustains us wants a relationship with us.

His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us. For in him we live and move and exist.

Acts 17:27–28a

So, He didn’t leave us sick in our sin.

When you and I are sick and need surgery, the doctor begins the healing process by using a scalpel. That’s the Law! It cuts. It hurts. And we might even look for other answers . . . something other than facing the pain.

But that incision is just the beginning . . . God allows the Law to cut us open so we might know how desperately we need His healing touch.

And when we come to the Lord in humility, admitting that we need Him to heal us . . . that’s The Gospel—the second message of the Bible and The Best News Ever.

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood.

Romans 3:23–25a

You and I have broken God’s Law – and we need His Grace through The Gospel.

Yes, the Best News Ever says:

Jesus has taken away my sins. By grace through faith I am made right with God and empowered to trust and obey His will.

A Prayer to Celebrate and Live the Best News Ever

Father, Your love overwhelms me. I am a selfish sinner. I deserve Your judgment and punishment. But because You are gracious and merciful, You sent Jesus as a sacrifice for me. He suffered my punishment for me and because of Him, You declare me forgiven and clean.

And that is the Best News Ever! Thank you! THANK YOU!

Please, Lord, I ask You to help me, by the power of Your Holy Spirit, live this truth every single day of my life now and forever. Help me surrender each day to You. Help me walk in Your love. Help me know and follow Your will. Help me speak the truth with gentleness and respect, compassion and care. Help me delight in living for Your glory. I ask this in the name of Jesus, the One who makes it all possible. Amen.

It’s hard to admit that we are sinners. We’d much prefer to compare ourselves to one another than to compare ourselves to a holy and righteous God.

But He is our Creator. He defines what is good and righteous and holy. And we fall short of His glorious standard. Thanks be to God . . . He makes us righteous (right in His sight) through Christ Jesus!

And that’s news to celebrate!

On today’s note write:

I am forgiven and free through Jesus and that’s the Best News Ever.

Just for fun . . . here’s one of my favorite songs:

May God bless you today as you celebrate His grace, mercy, and love . . . as you celebrate Jesus.

  1. Yes, we are all sinners who fall short of God’s glory, and all of us need His redemptive love and forgiveness each and every day, and sometimes, even moment to moment.

Thank you Deb for your encouraging message today and for sharing the song with us. I very much enjoyed listening to its upbeat melody and encouraging words ….the work is already done – we are already saved and much loved by our Heavenly Father who sent his only son to redeem us. We are all sinners, journeying together – we can change our lives through Him. All glory goes to God.
