The Flood – Miracle or Myth

Do you believe the “Bible Stories” you learned as a child?

Are Noah, Jonah, and Sodom and Gomorrah just nice fables/myths written by ancients who were trying to come up with ways to get their children to obey? Or are they actual accounts of factual events?

I guess the question is . . . do you believe in miracles?

Big miracles?

Creation sized, flood sized miracles?

I’ve done a little research, and there are geologists and archaeologists who are using advanced technology to find evidences of the Genesis flood.

The Flood – Miracle or Myth

Some of the resources I found:

Answers in Genesis – Geological Evidences for the Genesis Flood

Answers in Genesis – Startling Evidence for Noah’s Flood

Apologetic Press – Evidence for Global Flood

You may or may not agree . . . I don’t have any trouble believing that something as huge as a world-wide catastrophic event like this occurred. You see I believe God is beyond my comprehension or understanding. I believe that He has been throughout history, is at present, and will be throughout time to come able to do as He wills.

God is who He says He is.

The part of the account that overwhelms me, is that after the flood God gave the following promise:

Then God told Noah and his sons, “I hereby confirm my covenant with you and your descendants, and with all the animals that were on the boat with you—the birds, the livestock, and all the wild animals—every living creature on earth. Yes, I am confirming my covenant with you. Never again will floodwaters kill all living creatures; never again will a flood destroy the earth.”

Then God said, “I am giving you a sign of my covenant with you and with all living creatures, for all generations to come. I have placed my rainbow in the clouds. It is the sign of my covenant with you and with all the earth. When I send clouds over the earth, the rainbow will appear in the clouds,  and I will remember my covenant with you and with all living creatures. Never again will the flood-waters destroy all life. When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth.” Then God said to Noah, “Yes, this rainbow is the sign of the covenant I am confirming with all the creatures on earth.” Genesis 9:8-17

An eternal promise. To all Noah’s descendants – that’s you and me.

I am so thankful for this reminder that God is so much bigger than we make Him with our need for evidence and explanations, and yet He was, is, and always will be the personal Provider of our hope and our salvation.

That’s an awesome blessing!

  1. I absolutely and totally believe in the Biblical accounts of these various events- the flood included. It really does increase my faith for miracles- and the knowledge that our God can do ANYTHING!!
This past week I’ve witnessed a miracle of a changed life in someone I could NEVER have imagined would be able to change- it has been mind boggling- and yet, I stand back and say, “Lord, you ARE the great miracle worker and your promises NEVER fail!!!”
Thank you for another great post!
