How Jesus Told People the Main Truth of the Bible

One of the most profound statements Jesus made during His earthly ministry is found in John 5:

“You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me!”

John 5:39

You and I can read the Bible from cover to cover day in and day out and we can study and analyze every little detail and point on its pages but if we fail to see the truth about Jesus . . . we will have missed the main truth and the very reason Scripture exists.

The religious leaders of Jesus’ day knew the Bible but they missed the main truth. They missed recognizing their need for forgiveness and God’s gift of grace.

They missed Jesus!

This is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16

I wonder if we still get caught up in “Religion” and miss the main truth of God’s love letter, the Bible.

We argue about doctrine and practices, rules and rituals, music styles and wardrobe and coffee and parking and _________.

And we miss the point of God’s love.

Paul summarized the point in Romans 3:

Everyone has sinned and fallen short of God’s glorious standard, and all need to be made right with God by his grace, which is a free gift. They need to be made free from sin through Jesus Christ. God sent him to die in our place to take away our sins. We receive forgiveness through faith in the blood of Jesus’ death.

Romans 3:23–25a (NCV)

No matter how hard we try or how good we are . . . we all fall short of God’s will. We need Jesus!

I believe the main truth of Scripture is not to tell us how to live right, although it does; nor is it to tell us how we should judge whether or not everyone else is living right, although sadly we do.

The point of studying the Bible and SEEKing the truth of its Words is that we would fall in love with the Lord.

You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’

Mark 12:30

And learn to love others the way we have been loved by the Lord.

I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.

John 13:34

A Prayer to Know the Main Truth of the Bible and Love Like Jesus

Lord, give me a deep desire to read and study Your Word, not just because it will tell me how to live but because it makes it possible for me to know You. Paul wrote that “everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” (Philippians 3:8) I pray that my heart’s desire will be to know You, my Lord and Savior. Because when I truly KNOW the truth of Your love, I can’t help but want to trust and obey Your will. Your Word of Truth promises me a “future and a hope” and a heart for prayer. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) The TRUTH of the Bible. Thank you for wanting us to KNOW You. Thank you for Your LOVE. Thank you for the gift of LIFE that lasts forever. I pray in the name of the One who is the TRUTH . . . in the name of Jesus. Amen.

You and I may not understand every word of Scripture but by God’s grace and the help of the Holy Spirit, we can know the main truth. We can know the truth of the Bible that leads to faith in Jesus and when we have that . . . we have everything we need.

On today’s note write:

Jesus is the main truth of the Bible!

Amen Deb! And thank you for your encouraging words. Let us always be seekers of the truth. To love the Lord our God with all our hearts, with all our minds and all our strength….and to love our neighbour as ourselves….in Jesus name we pray. Jesus is the way! We learn to trust Him, the more we get to know Him and walk in His ways. He always has our best interests at heart when we keep His commandment, to love God and love our neighbour. His truth is summed up in this commandment.
Blessings to you Deb and have a wonderful, God filled day.
