Where I’m From – a Quick Look at the Past

Sharing is caring!

I recently did a little writing exercise titled, Where I'm From. I thought I might share it with you and give you a little peek into my past.

I attended Bloggy Boot Camp this past Saturday.

Tiffany and Fran made sure we ended the day having made new friends and with enough information to process for days and weeks ahead. It was great!

I opted for the Writer’s Workshop breakout session, and I’d like to share the exercise they gave us to creatively express a little bit about ourselves. This is a fill in the blank writing prompt . . . I’m highlight my answers.

It’s called Where are YOU From?

I am from keyboards and journals, from Baldwin pianos and stacks of spiral bound paper.

I am from practicing and learning to express myself.

I am from the fragrance of Gardenias and banana bread. From schnauzers, bunnies, ducklings, and parakeets.

I am from saying, “Grace” with folded hands, and table talk. From my artistic mom and my musical dad.

I am from those who are quick to talk,  who take long drives on country roads, and attend church on Sunday.

From “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all, play fair, and do your best.”

I’m from blended cultures, from Judaism and Christianity, from classical and rock and roll, from steak and potatoes.

From getting my fingers stuck in a spinning mixer, from memorized music forgotten on public television, and from countless choir, piano, and organ performances.

I am from ribboned letters, and envelopes filled with photos. From folklore and facts. A mixture of quiet and loud, just trying to be myself.

I am from generations who have gone before me.

Where are You from?

Lord, you have seen what is in my heart. You know all about me.
You know when I sit down and when I get up. You know what I’m thinking even though You are far away.
You know when I go out to work and when I come back home. You know exactly how I live.
Lord, even before I speak a word, You know all about it.
You are all around me. You are behind me and in front of me. You hold me in your power.
I’m amazed at how well You know me. It’s more than I can understand. Psalm 139:1-6

  1. This was a great conference. I went to the Blogging for Business session but I would have loved to be able to be in both places. Thank you for sharing, your answers are wonderful.

    1. Hi Cassie, It was great! I agree, would have loved to attend both sessions. I signed up for the internet sessions, so hoping I can get more information there. Although, I must admit it will take me a while to implement all of the things I learned on Saturday. Like me, my blog is a work in progress. Thanks for stopping by and for taking the time to say hello!!
