3 Important Things You Need to Do While You Wait for Jesus

Dr. Warren Wiersbe wrote in the BE Series the following quote from Napoleon Bonaparte…

‘If Socrates would enter the room, we should rise and do him honor. But if Jesus Christ came into the room, we should fall down on our knees and worship Him.”

Truthfully, I don’t think there will be any “should” about it. When Jesus returns in all His glory every knee will bow before Him.

We wait and watch for that moment when…

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the archangel’s voice, and with the trumpet of God.

1 Thessalonians 4:16a

The people in Jesus time were watching and waiting, too. There had not been a prophet in Israel for more that 400 years. The Messiah had been promised but the waiting seemed to go on and on and the world felt darker and darker.

And in His perfect timing, God sent John the Baptist to proclaim the imminent arrival of the Messiah.

John went from place to place on both sides of the Jordan River, preaching that people should be baptized to show that they had repented of their sins and turned to God to be forgiven.

John 3:3

And that is the message for all of us in 2021, too.

Repent and turn to God to be forgiven!

The good news for those of us who wait today is that we have the living and active Word of God to tell us the details of the One who is the Messiah proclaimed by God…

Jesus himself was baptized. As he was praying, the heavens opened, and the Holy Spirit, in bodily form, descended on him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.

Luke 3:21b–22

So, what are the 3 things you and I should do while we wait for Jesus?

  1. Repent – tell God you are truly sorry for your sins, that you no longer want to sin against Him.
  2. Turn to God in faith – tell God you want to trust and obey His will and ask Him to forgive you through Jesus.
  3. Worship – humbly bow before the Lord. Offer Him your life. Thank and praise Him for who He is and all He has done and continues to do.

Pray While You Wait for Jesus

Father, like earlier days of waiting, the world can feel darker and darker. The enemy of our souls is spreading lies and distorting Your truth and our wait seems long and worrisome.

But, by Your grace, we have Your promises. Promises I believe because, through Jesus, You have proven that You always keep every promise you make.

So, please forgive my sins. I am so sorry that I have failed to follow Your will for me. I believe that Jesus died for me and that You raised Him from the dead. I believe You gave Jesus, the Messiah, to suffer the punishment for my sins. I trust Jesus and with Your help, I pray to trust Him every day for the rest of my life. I worship You, Father. I worship You, Lord Jesus. And by the power of Your Spirit, I ask you to guide me and help me while I wait for Jesus to return. Amen.

Even when the wait seems long and difficult, we can trust God’s promises and follow the message of John the Baptist.

On today’s note write…

While I wait for Jesus, I will repent, turn to God in faith, and worship.

God bless you while you wait in faith through all the moments of your day.

    1. Yes, not worrying starts with following His will. And following His will means keeping out focus on Him. I’m praying God keeps you centered in His love and grants you His peace. God bless you!
