Confession – Another Broken Resolution

Sharing is caring!

Sunflower in blue skyI have a confession to make.

I’m getting a personal opportunity to live out my writing. Getting that tap on the shoulder and Holy Spirit whisper reminding that I’ve lost my focus, and thinking about myself again.

I’ve written about being thankful for God’s love and fretted about:

How can I grow my readership?
How can I get people to leave comments?
How can I urge more people to become subscribers?
How can I get more Facebook fans and twitter followers?

Focusing on the “me” of writing and not honoring my goal for the year of . . .  living with intentional gratitude to glorify God.

I’m doing more talking than walking. (Well that’s true for me physically, but I don’t want it to be true for me spiritually.)

Why is it when God has graciously given us LIFE  and LOVE in Christ, we so easily become like Chevy Chase in the movie Vacation? We look over our Grand Canyon of  countless blessings, shrug our shoulders, turn around, and make it all about US.

So as the Holy Spirit got my attention and I stopped. I “ceased striving” and I confessed, prayed, and sat quietly.

I thanked Him.

And I asked for His help once again. Help to live with intentional gratitude. To do more walking than talking.

How are you doing with your word for 2013, your goals, or resolutions?

If like me you’ve found yourself doing more talking about them than actually living them . . . I have good news.

I have great news!

It’s not too late. Don’t give up.

You are loved. You are forgiven. And you can have a fresh start. Right now.

The Lord came to us from far away, saying, “I have loved you with a love that lasts forever. So I have helped you come to Me with loving-kindness.” Jeremiah 31:3

These words were written by Jeremiah as he was inspired by God to address the people of Israel while they were in captivity in Babylon. They had failed to obey God’s commands, worshipped other gods, and lost their freedom for a time; but later in the same chapter Jeremiah wrote:

“There is hope for your future,” says the Lord, “and your children will return to their own land.” v. 17

Hope for your future. Because God is merciful and gracious. He forgives. He always has and always will. His love is forever.

So, if like me, you’ve lost track of your goals, broken your resolutions, or failed to walk your talk . . . today is a great day start again. Thank the Lord for His forgiveness and love, and live with intentional gratitude to His glory.

  1. I find your honesty so encouraging! My goal for this year is to TRUST IN GOD MORE and I guess, with a big muscle pain in my neck :S, I am failing too!

But I’ll hold on to this> “today is a great day start again. Thank the Lord for His forgiveness and love, and live with intentional gratitude to His glory.”

    Thank you Deb!

    1. Thanks Andrea! Rev and I continue to pray for you. Your high calling has to be both rewarding and challenging. Will also pray for relief from neck pain. Think about you often and pray that you are blessed, as I know you are blessing others. xoxoxox Deb

  2. My word is “simply” – to simply love, simply give and simply give. I still find life so complicated sometimes and am having a hard time finding the simply. I love when God comes and helps us to refocus.

    1. Barbie, I love that. SIMPLY. What a great word. I crave simplicity in this complex life and foolishly fail to do the things I need to get there. Blessings as you move in this direction this year.
