5 Verses that will Help You Shine When You Lose Your Sparkle
I hate phone-trees.
It’s embarrassing how quickly I get ugly while trying to talk to a computer voice that insists I follow her prompts while refusing to hear my request.
I try to make myself feel better with the excuse . . . it’s only a computer. But if it goes on too long, I feel sorry for the poor service representative that picks up the line to talk to me before I can settle my voice and improve my attitude.
Jesus said, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
Ouch! It’s painful to think about the times I fail to shine in ways that give the Father glory.
So, I’m going to Him in prayer, and if there’s a chance you need a little prayer about light shining too . . . I’d love for you to join me as I ask Him for forgiveness and help.
5 Verses that will Help You Shine When You Lose Your Sparkle
Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Father, I love you and want to glorify You. I’m ashamed of how often I fail. I’m sorry. Please forgive me. I can so relate to Apostle Paul when he said, “I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway.” (Romans 7:19) And in the process, I fail to represent the blessings I have as Your child. I need Your Spirit to fill me with light . . . with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.(Galatians 5:22) I need more of You. Please help me for Jesus’ sake. Amen.
John 12:46
I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.
Dear Jesus, You are the Light of the World. The world is a dark place . . . threats of war, broken relationships, lies, ugliness, loss, and the list goes on and on. I can’t imagine trying to live one day without the hope You give. You promised, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12) Your Word shows me what it means to follow You. Yet, like the humble father, standing before You, who said, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief.” (Mark 9:24) Please help me stay focused on Your victory over darkness when life distracts and I’m tempted to doubt. With Your Spirit’s help, I put my life in Your hands and trust Your love. Amen.
Luke 11:35–36
“So be careful not to let the light in you become darkness. If your whole body is full of light, and none of it is dark, then you will shine bright, as when a lamp shines on you.”
Father, forgive me. It’s so easy for me to let darkness into my life. Sometimes it feels like it’s everywhere. Social media, entertainment, even an afternoon with friends can turn into gossip and ugliness. I want to shine bright, but I’m so quick to fail. Help me! By Your grace, shine through the darkness and help me, fill me with Your light. Help me focus on Your truth and shine Your light with enthusiasm. In Jesus name, Amen.
Psalm 108:5
Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens. May Your glory shine over all the earth.
Oh Lord, Your glory shines all around me. I look at Your creation . . . countless miracles since the beginning of time. You accomplish all Your plans and purposes. You forgive each failure through Jesus and give me the hope of life forever. Every promise is lasting and true. I can count on You! Keep me mindfully aware of the ways You are at work around me and help me shine light on all You do. Amen.
John 1:5
The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overpowered it.
Thank you, Father, for Jesus, the Light of the world, who defeated darkness. Evil’s time is limited. Because of Jesus victory, I have the promise of life with You forever and the blessing of “life in all its fullness” today. (John 10:10) Thank you, Jesus! Please fill me with Your Spirit and help me by Your grace to shine . . . not for me Lord, but for Your glory. Forever and always. Amen.
Whew, shining is hard isn’t it. It’s so easy to let “self” get in the way. Praise God for Jesus, who gives us victory, helps us shine, and share God’s love.
We forget, don’t we, that God cares about the little things. Sometimes I catch a glimpse of my expression in a store mirror or reflective surface and notice how stern and unapproachable I must seem by appearance. Thanks, Deb, for creating opportunities here for God to make us more sensitive to His promptings.
It is all too easy to lose our sparkle and forget to shine for the Lord. Thank you, Deb, for your encouraging prayers here. You’ve gotten my Friday off to a shining start!
Blessings!
I needed these verses this morning. I’m so thankful we can start each day new and let our light in Jesus shine to others.

Your post goes along with my most recent one and oh how I need to be reminded too to let my light shine!!
This is one of my favorites: John 1:5 “The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overpowered it.” Thanks for helping us shine a little brighter today, Deb!
Oh, I need these. More often than I want to admit. I’m adding them to my prayer journal!
You are always so good at applying Scripture to all of our life questions. That is key isn’t it?
Thanks Deb.
Patti
Deb – Ouch… You got me with the phone- tree. I hate speaking to those darn things, and I am not shining very bright when I finally get a live person. Thank you for the verses to shift my thoughts. I needed that today.
I find it amazing that God has something to say to us in every problem or issue that we face. Love these verses.
Deb- those poor phone operators! I’ve failed in letting my light shine many times.
Thank you for this post and the verses!

Thank you,and GOD ???? BLESS ????
Carol, I think the enemy works extra hard to keep us from praying and to keep us distracted when we do pause to pray. I’m glad you were encouraged by your visit. May God be with you and bless you as you lean into His love through prayer.
