Know This Important Truth and Live Without Fear Today
How much do you worry about the future? Are you able to live without fear?
Several years ago, one of the characters on a show I was watching said…
“It’s not the unknown I’m afraid of, it’s the known unknown.”
That’s true! Isn’t it?
We’re not afraid of things we’ve never heard of. We’re frightened of the possibilities … things we’ve seen, heard, or experienced.
Things we’ve seen, heard, or lived through are the things that make us fearful.
For example…
We don’t fear illnesses we’ve never heard of. We didn’t fear terrorism in the U.S. before it happened. We don’t fear divorce until we’ve seen the pain it causes. And we don’t fear betrayal, rejection, or a broken heart until we or someone we know suffers its pain.
“It’s not the unknown that makes us tremble. It’s the uncertainty of the possible.”
However, although your future and mine are unknown to us, they are not unknown to our heavenly Father. He loves and cares for us, forgives us, and covers us with His mercy and grace. He knows every little detail of our tomorrows … all of them, and He promised that He will never leave us to live a single moment alone.
He can help you, and me, live without fear. I promise!
And I can promise because my experiences have made me trust His promises…
Jesus said…
I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you.
John 14:16
John walked with Jesus and wrote…
We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in His love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.
1 John 4:16
And Paul wrote…
My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Galatians 2:20
My first memory is one of standing in an upstairs window with my grandmother watching my mom being taken by ambulance to the hospital. Mom was very ill with pneumonia and because everyone in the house worked or went to school, I had to stay with family members that I didn’t know very well.
From that day on, I was afraid of losing my parents and being left alone. As an adult, I feared losing Rev or my children or getting ill and leaving them.
I believed my eternal future was secure but feared living through the painful here and now.
Today, I sit on the other side of rejection, betrayal, illness, and loss. By God’s grace, I was never alone. The Lord was with me through every season of my life and I believe He will be with me in the days ahead.
By His grace, I’ve learned to live without fear by running to God in prayer and clinging to His promises.
I can’t promise bad things won’t happen but I can promise that the Lord will be with you. When God is with us, we can face the known unknown unafraid trusting that He never allows more than He provides all we need to endure.
Jesus frequently told His followers, “Don’t be afraid.”
I used to wonder how. How can we live without fear when our stomachs are in knots and life is so fragile?
We cling to God through prayer and His promises.
Let’s pray…
A Prayer Asking God to Help You
Live Without Fear
Father God, the enemy is persistent in tempting us to doubt Your ability to help us through life’s “what ifs.” Everywhere we look people are walking through seasons of heartache and suffering. It’s no wonder we fear facing affliction ourselves.
But throughout Your Word, You told Your children to let go of fear and trust You. You promised to always be with them. You told Paul that Your grace is sufficient for whatever You allow.
Lord, I have learned that You don’t give strength in one big bundle for the rest of our lives and You don’t give me what I need tomorrow … today. You give me exactly what I need when I need it.
I thank and praise You for Your love and care. I am not alone and by Your grace, I never will be. David wrote, “When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You” (Psalm 56:3), and “The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust Him with all my heart.” (Psalm 28:7)
That is my prayer. By Your grace, when I am afraid help me run to You and trust You to surround me with Your all-sufficient grace, mercy, and love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Before we close, here are a few more promises to hold close to your heart…
Do not worry about anything, but pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks. And God’s peace, which is so great we cannot understand it, will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6–7 (NCV)
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.
Romans 8:38–39
Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18,20b
May the Lord be with you and give you everything you need to live without fear today.

Such comforting words from our Lord that you’ve expressed here, Deb. Let us face each trial knowing we don’t have to be afraid because Jesus is right there with us. Blessings always!
I’m so glad, Martha! God’s blessings!
Fear and anxiety are crippling. I know! I have experienced it firsthand. Thankfully I have learned that I am never alone. God is always with me and never leaves me. I have called out to HIM a many a night when I would wake up trembling from anxiety and fear. He is always there!!
Deb, like you, I have been through rejection from ones I love, and it is so hurtful to feel that. And to feel abandonment! I have gone through that as well. God has taught me much in my lifetime. The biggest lessons are that He loves me, He never leaves me or forsakes me, and I am forgiven!
He hides me in the shadow of His wings and protects me like the walls of a fort.
Thank you for this wonderful post and the beautiful prayer.
God bless you, my friend and prayers for you to have a beautiful and safe weekend.
Amen, Sue! This is so beautifully said. What a blessing to know that we can run to the Lord when life is hard. I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend. Blessings, my friend!
Thank you for your message today. This morning I read on facebook about someone who spent a good part of the night agonizing over the future of our earth, the results of the US election and that Canada will follow his priority of money before other issues of trying to stop the pollution of our world before it is too late. I am also concerned but know that God is the creator of all things and can pray for his will to be done and know with certainty that nothing is impossible for God. May you be blessed in your ministry.
Amen, Penny! Our God is the Lord of creation. He tells us to pray for our leaders and trust His will. I believe our future is in God’s hands. He’s told us that He is preparing a new heaven and new earth. So, may we live each day as good stewards of the present who maintain an eternal perspective. God be with you and bless you!
I know in my heart that the kind of faith exist that can truly see the unseen, that is so completely committed to Jesus that it can stare life and all its circumstances in the face….unfortunately, I’m very far from this faith. My first reaction is still the knot in my stomach, anxiety….all the what ifs. Then usually run back to the Lord for peace and security. And remember how He was always there with me throughout my life. Even in those periods when I didn’t want nothing to do with Him. This recognition always gives me hope, renews my faith…. But then comes another challenge and it all starts again. Wish to reach that point when I can stand solidly holding unto Jesus’s hand whatever comes my way…
Thanks for sharing this, Gaby. I’ve always been highly anxious and have had to surrender my anxiety to the Lord several times a day. What a blessing that He is faithful to give the strength we need when we need it. Like you, I just keep running back to Him for peace and security. Our God is so good! God’s blessings, my friend!
Hello, Deb,
I pray all is well with you. 🙏🙏
Thank you for the words of truth and encouragement.
In a time where fear-inducing news is everywhere and doomsday predictions,
Christians should stand out as who are Not afraid because:
“Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”~ 1 Peter 5:7.
“I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.”~
Psalm 34:4
“ For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”~
2 Timothy 1:7
If we are in Christ, and we cling to Him by faith, we never have to fear. When we trust in God who is sovereign over the universe, fear should leave us.
Deb, may you have a Blessed, fruitful and joyful weekend.
In His kingdom.
Thanks for this, Raquel. I love those verses. I’m learning that it’s most helpful when I ask the Lord to remove my fear in the present moment. It’s easy for us to want to want a fearless future but that unrealistic. When I ask Him to give me momentary courage, He is always faithful. God is good and gives us everything we need one moment at a time. God be with you and bless you!
