Jesus promised to give all who believe in Him life now and forever. The Bible is full of evidence that Jesus is who He says He is. He keeps His promises & He promised that He is life now and forever.

Jesus promised to give all who believe in Him life now and forever.

Have you ever envied Mary and Martha as you were grieving the death of a loved one?

Jesus knew He was on a mission to raise Lazarus from the dead.

He told His disciples…

“Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but now I will go and wake him up.”

John 11:11

Thinking Lazarus was only sleeping, the disciples were confused. So, Jesus made His purpose clear…

“Lazarus is dead. And for your sakes, I’m glad I wasn’t there, for now, you will really believe. Come let’s go see him.”

John 11:14b–15

Although Jesus knew how the day would end, He cared deeply for His grieving friends and expressed His emotions through tears and anger. Yes, Jesus cares so much that He cries with us when we grieve, and sin and its consequences still make Him angry

John wrote…

Jesus was still angry as He arrived at the tomb, a cave with a stone rolled across its entrance. “Roll the stone aside,” Jesus told them.

But Martha, the dead man’s sister, protested, “Lord, he has been dead for four days. The smell will be terrible.”

John 11:38–39

Today, we celebrate the fact that death has no lasting power when Jesus is present.

“Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?”

John 11:40

Jesus raised Jairus’ daughter, the widow’s son, and His friend, Lazarus from the dead. Death could not hold them, it could not hold Jesus, and it will not hold us.

By God’s grace and the power of His Spirit, we can…

Believe!

They removed the stone from Lazarus’ tomb, and Jesus prayed…

John 11:41–42

God sent Jesus to save us and give us a rich and satisfying life today (John 10:10), and eternally. (John 6:40)

So, when…

  • We have to wait.
  • We don’t understand.
  • We’re crying and angry.
  • We grieve.

We can be confident that our Lord and Savior, Jesus, is greater than our circumstances and our feelings.

There will be a day when He will shout for us to…

“Come out!”

And because we believe (KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST Him) we will join Him and live with Him body, soul, and spirit forever.

Today … like that day in Bethany, there will always be those who place their hope in Him and those who won’t.

So…

We must cling to God’s promises as they will help us remember that Jesus is the Redeemer who forever holds the power over sin and death…

“I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die.”

John 11:25–26a

I assure you that the time is coming, indeed it’s here now, when the dead will hear my voice—the voice of the Son of God. And those who listen will live.

John 5:25

No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:39

Let’s pray…

A Prayer to Believe that Jesus
is the Promise of Life

Father God, thank for Jesus the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Thank you for showing us Your power and love, compassion, and caring through Jesus. Thank you for allowing us to KNOW and LOVE You.

Thank you for Your Word and the blessing of faith through the power of Your Spirit. By Your grace, I believe Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life. I believe it is only through Him that I am forgiven of my sinfulness and set free to TRUST and OBEY You.

Please forgive me as I continue to fight the sin within me and for failing far too often. Please help me know Your plans and purposes for me and bless me with the strength I need to fulfill them.

Thank you for telling us You care about our emotions and for showing us that You alone have the power over life and death. Although, we may have to wait longer than four days for Jesus to say, “Come out” we can be confident that day will come.

I believe He will come for me and I will be with You forever. Yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

Jesus promised to give all who believe in Him life now and forever. The Bible is full of evidence that Jesus is who He says He is. He keeps His promises & He promised that He is life now and forever.

Paul wrote…

But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for Him to return as our Savior. He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like His own, using the same power with which He will bring everything under His control.

Philippians 3:20–21

    1. Amen, Martha! It’s His greatest blessing, isn’t it! Blessings, dear friend!

  3. Oh, how I love the story of Martha and Mary! One of my favorites in the Bible. Unfortunately, I am more like Martha than Mary. The jittery type. The one thing I do hold dear is my Faith in Jesus. He is truly the Life of my life, the Light of my life, and the TRUE LOVE OF MY LIFE!
Thank you once again for the beautiful posts you send and the prayers.
I pray that you have a safe and wonderful weekend, my friend.

    1. I’ve always been more like Martha too, Sue. I’m making it a goal to be more like Mary and spend more time at the feet of my Savior. Thanks for your visits and wonderful comments. Blessings and HUGS!
