Hide the Scale and Start to LIVE

Most of my life I’ve allowed the morning “number” to determine my mood, what I ate, how much I ate, and what I wore.

I began the week telling you when my food issues began, today I want to tell you about my season of binging and how it intensified the problem.

I dieted my way through college.
Rev and I were married two weeks after graduation.

Between pre-wedding celebrations and our honeymoon, I gained 10 pounds in three weeks. So, I started married life on a diet. I was able to avoid food all day, but evenings I ate and ate and ate. Within weeks I added another 10 pounds.

That’s when I started binging. I stuffed anything with sugar in it and hated myself for it. Add another 15 pounds.

I know what it’s like to be on the receiving end of unsolicited diet tips and less than complementary comments. It hurts.

After the year it took to take off that 35 pounds, I was determined to NEVER let my weight get out of control again. I have carefully managed every bite of food since.

So, what now?

How to find freedom from food issues and start to live:

1. Hide the scale – A number isn’t necessary to know whether or not we’re gaining or losing weight. Most of us can tell our weight within a few pounds by the way we feel and how our clothes fit.

2. Eat for nutrition – God has given us a world of nutritious food. My goal moving forward will be to eat for health and nutrition by avoiding highly processed foods with additives.

3. Focus on health and energy over weight – It’s time to stop allowing photos of waif-like models to determine the ideal body shape and size. We are each uniquely and wonderfully made for God’s plans and purposes. My prayer is to be the best me possible to glorify God and bless others.

4. Slow down and enjoy food more – Taste. Chew. Savor. No longer will I miss the pleasure of a meal because I am worried about fat and calories.

5 . No more rules – No more eater’s remorse. I will live under a covering of grace.

Are you ready to join me?

For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Romans 14:17

So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31
