8 Reasons To Be Enthusiastic And Have More Fun Now
Imagine . . . you’ve dreamt about it forever and saved for as long as you can remember. You’ve planned, purchased, and packed.
Finally, it’s time to go and you’re beyond excited. Tired and stressed, but enthusiastic and filled with anticipation.
You’re about to spend a week with your family making wonderful memories together in (insert dream destination here).
But then your teen looks up from her phone, rolls her eyes, and says, “Seriously! I can’t go a whole week without…”
What do you do?
1. Put your frustration on full display and go on a rant.
2. Let disappointment suck the joy out of the first few days of the trip.
3. Sulk and wonder why you try so hard for little appreciation.
4. Or … continue to be enthusiastic and pray it rubs off on everyone else.
What if you and I decided to be enthusiastic no matter what was happening around us? What if we decided not to let other people’s moods affect ours?
It’s hard, isn’t it?
But God…
God is the author of enthusiasm and He wants us to be enthusiastic about the world He created and the life He gives.
Look at creation … the color, variety, and beauty. God’s enthusiasm is everywhere.
Then God looked over all He had made, and he saw that it was very good!
Genesis 1:31
And look at the life He offers us…
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness…
Galatians 5:22
Do you know the origin of the word enthusiasm?
It comes from the Greek word – entheos, meaning EN (in) +THEOS (god) or “the Spirit of God within.”
When you and I are enthusiastic we’re showing the joy of the Lord that lives within us.
So, let’s look at some wonderful reasons to be enthusiastic … including the fact that it’s just more fun!
8 Reasons to Be Enthusiastic and Have More Fun
1. Enthusiastic people enjoy more energy.
Those who trust in the Lord
Isaiah 40:31
will renew their strength;
they will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not become weary,
they will walk and not faint.
2. God-given enthusiasm makes us more optimistic and joyful.
But let all who take refuge in you rejoice;
Psalm 5:11
let them shout for joy forever.
May you shelter them,
and may those who love your name boast about you.
3. Godly enthusiasm shows itself in creativity.
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Ephesians 2:10
4. Enthusiastic people don’t let fear stop them.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
2 Timothy 1:7
5. Godly enthusiasm is heart-healing.
A cheerful look brings joy to the heart;
Proverbs 15:30
good news makes for good health.
6. Enthusiastic people live with hope.
I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13
7. Enthusiasm from God is contagious.
I will proclaim your greatness.
Psalm 145:6b–7
Everyone will share the story of your wonderful goodness;
they will sing with joy about your righteousness.
8. Living with enthusiasm from God is a choice.
Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.
Ephesians 6:7
Let’s pray…
A Prayer for God’s Help to Be Enthusiastic
Father God, You are the Creator of all things. You are the source of enthusiasm. I loved learning that being enthusiastic means “having Your Spirit within.” The enemy of our souls wants us to doubt You and live with hopelessness but when Your Spirit is within us we can live with hope and joy.
Lord, You give us everything we need to live enthusiastically. You sent Jesus to show us Your love, and through Him, You made it possible for us to be forgiven and free. You gave us Your Word so we might KNOW You, our Creator, Savior, and Comforter.
Please forgive me for the times I listen to the enemy letting the world’s sinfulness stifle my enthusiasm. I ask You to help me choose to keep my heart and mind focused on You so that I might receive all that You want for me and enthusiastically spread Your love in all I do and say. By Your grace, please surround me and fill me with Your Spirit. Amen.
Are you ready to be enthusiastic?
Paul wrote…
Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.
Romans 12:11–12
God has given us an amazing gift … let’s thank and praise Him by using it faithfully.
We would love to pray for you.

This post warmed me through and through, Deb. I never knew the origin of the word ‘enthusiasm’ until you so aptly gave it to us here. May we all be enthusiastic for God and His purposes for us, and shine that optimistic joy with others.
Blessings!
I’m so glad, Martha! God’s blessings!
I had a wall hanging a long time ago that said: “Live your life as an exclamation, not an explanation”. Thank you for reminding me of that. God’s grace allows me to live like that and I am forever grateful for Jesus in my life to live that way❣️
I love that, JoAnne. It’s a great word of encouragement. Thank you! God bless you!
Gracious Goodness! This is just what I needed today!! You are so right. Enthusiasm is contagious. My former Mother-in-Law was like that. She always told me, and I have found it to be true, that happy people are the ones people like to be around. I know we can’t be happy and enthusiastic all of the time, but it sure helps. We all have so much to be thankful for and enthusiastic about.
I hope that you have a beautiful week. Hugs to you, my friend.
Your MIL sounds like a wonderful wise and fun woman. I was blessed with a precious dear Mom-in Love too. Life is just more fun when we’re joyful and enthusiastic. You’re right, there will be times when it’s not possible but I sure want it to be my goal. Blessings and hugs!
