The Best Way to Be Safe and Strong In A Storm
There’s a strong storm going through our area as I type these words and I’m hoping we don’t lose power.
Storms without or storms within … life’s storms leave us insecure and unsettled. When the sky darkens and sirens start blaring we want to feel safe and strong enough to make it through.
David wrote…
God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.
Psalm 46:1
When trouble looms over us we want a safe place of refuge. Sometimes God provides a place of shelter away from danger.
But occasionally He says, “This situation needs you to be strong—I need you to trust me and boldly walk through the challenge. Just remember, I am with you and I will give you everything you need.”
The Lord is our refuge and strength. Sometimes He allows us to wait quietly sheltered under His care and sometimes He asks us to boldly step out in His strength. That means our stormy seasons are the perfect time to “be still and KNOW”…
“Be still, and know that I am God!
Psalm 46:10
I will be honored by every nation.
I will be honored throughout the world.”
I’ve spent more time getting to KNOW the Lord as my refuge and strength these last months.
Grief is like that.
There are moments when I ask God to be my refuge … my safe place, and times when I’ve needed Him to give me strength.
I’ve prayed, “Lord, please keep me safe and strong.”
And He pointed me to Paul’s words to the Ephesians…
I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through His Spirit. Then Christ will make His home in your hearts as you trust in Him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.
Ephesians 3:14–17
Do you need God to be your refuge and strength today? Do you need Him to keep you safe and strong? Do you need deep roots?
Run to Him.
You can trust His glorious, unlimited resources to empower you and give you everything you need. I won’t tell you it will be easy but I will tell you that God keeps His promises.
My God will use His wonderful riches in Christ Jesus to give you everything you need.
Philippians 4:19
He keeps us safe and strong and, through His Spirit, increases our faith giving us deep roots to weather even the most difficult storms.
Let’s pray…
A Prayer to Be Safe and Strong
Through Life’s Storms
Father, It’s unsettling when the sirens are sounding as lightning flashes and thunder booms. Storm alerts tell us to shelter in an inner room to remain safe. But not all of life’s unsettling storms are predictable. Sometimes they seem to come out of nowhere and they’re not just unsettling … they’re terrifying.
The truth I’m learning from Your Word and experience is that whatever the storm, whether it’s unsettling or terrifying, You want my response to always be the same.
You want me to run to You trusting that You will keep me safe and strong. You are my refuge and strength. You give me quiet assurance when I need to hide away and You give me strength when I need to push through. Your Spirit guides me to what You know I need.
Lord, I can’t imagine trying to do one moment of my life without You. Whatever the circumstances, You are with me. I thank and praise You. You want me to KNOW, TRUST, and LOVE You because when I do, I will join the nations in honoring You forever and always.
So, by Your grace, I will be still. Please fill my heart and mind with Your peace. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Here are a couple of promises for us to hold close and help us remember that the Lord will keep us safe and strong.
The Lord is good,
Nahum 1:7
a strong refuge when trouble comes.
He is close to those who trust in Him.
Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep His promise.
Hebrews 10:23
When life’s circumstances leave us feeling vulnerable, we can cling to the promise that God is our refuge and strength confident that nothing can separate us from God’s love. (Romans 8:38) He is our strength and our portion forever. (Psalm 76:23)
May the Lord be with you and bless you as He keeps you safe and makes you strong.
We would love to pray for you.

I appreciate your words more than you know. They always come when I need them the most. My husband and I have been lost in faith due to an 8 year “storm” in our life and, although, we are Christians and have a strong faith in God, it has been wavering due to the length of our storm. Thank you for being my light in the dark and for your faithful reminders that God is my refuge and strength!
Hi, Kelly. I’m so sorry that you’ve been going through this difficult time. I believe the enemy of our souls works hard just trying to wear us down. I am praying for you and asking God to hold you close, give you strength, and through His grace bring an end to the storm. I am so blessed by your kind words of encouragement. Thank you! I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness. God be with you and bless you!
Boy did i need that today. Thank you
I’m so glad it blessed you, Glada. God be with you and give you His peace.
When we turn to God for shelter and comfort in the storms of life, He will never fail to help us to be strong.
Blessings, Deb!
Amen, Martha! There have been so many times when I don’t know how we would have gotten through were it not for His strength. Blessings and hugs!
Thank you🙏
You’re very welcome, Marinda. God bless you!
Deb,
You are really such an inspiration to us all. Here you are grieving and yet you keep encouraging us with your Godly wisdom. What a friend you are!!!
Yes indeed! God is our strength and refuge. An ever present help in trouble. I tell you, I don’t know what I would do without HIM. I can go to him with anything and HE is always available. Thankfully!!! I am still pondering the post you wrote on Monday about being out of control and afraid. I realized that I was letting a hurtful situation take over and rule my life and bring me down. I forgot to keep GOD in the CENTER! I was centered on the situation. I am grateful to be back in focus. God is good. He wants the best for us at all times. He knows our pain and he collects our tears in his bottle.
You do such a wonderful thing for us who follow you. I am grateful.
Thank you for being such a good and true friend. I have you in my prayers too, because I know that you are going through a very difficult time. God bless you my sweet friend as He has blessed me with you.
Oh, Sue. You are so kind. I think it’s easiest to focus on the storm right in front of us. I have to shut my eyes and ears to the lightning and thunder in order to remember that the Lord is right here with me in the middle of it all. He is the strength, courage, and peace we need. God bless you, my dear friend!
You and God encourage me exactly when I need it!! Tank you for your wisdom in pointing to His love and faithfulness to me.
I’m glad this blessed and encouraged you, Sandra. Thank you for your kindness and for visiting. God be with you and bless you.
