Celebrate No Housework Day – It’s Good for You
Woo Hoo! It’s No Housework Day!
A day to forget those daily chores . . . to leave the laundry until tomorrow, pile the dishes in the sink, and ignore the crumbs on the floor. It’s time to celebrate.
If I could, I would declare everyday – No Housework Day!
From Punchbowl:
National No Housework Day
Are you always looking for an excuse to put off housework and cleaning for just one more day? Well look no further, today’s holiday absolutely insists that you put down the sponge and cleaning supplies and just relax!
A 2008 study conducted at the University of Michigan found that the average married American woman does 17 hours of housework per week! After a long day at school or work, housework is the last thing anyone wants to come home to do.
Doctors and health experts say that it is essential for people with busy lifestyles to factor in time to relax. Relaxation can lower heart rate and blood pressure, reduce headaches, and improve concentration.
Celebrate National No Housework Day by ignoring the dirty dishes in the sink and the piles of laundry that need to be done and just relax. You deserve it!
I’m reading a preview copy of John Piper’s new book, Soul Keeping. Watch for a review later this month. So far, I have to say it’s excellent!
The early parts of the book contain several quotes by philosophy scholar, Dallas Willard. I think the following words apply to today’s holiday:
“Hurry is the great enemy of spiritual life in our day.”
Everyone I know is in a hurry. There are never enough hours to do everything. With jobs, homes, chauffeuring, homework, errands, etc. Time is precious and we spend most of it rushing through life.
Here are a few more quotes on rushing and hurry:
“In our rushing, bulls in china shops, we break our own lives.” ~ Ann Voskamp
“Never be in a hurry; do everything quietly and in a calm spirit. Do not lose your inner peace for anything whatsoever, even if your whole world seems upset.” ~St. Francis de Sales
“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under the trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.” ~ John Lubbock, Nobel Prize Recipient
“Take rest; a field that has rested gives a bountiful crop.” ~ Ovid
“Kids are happier, more relaxed, more creative and less stressed when scheduled activities are limited.” ~ Jacquie McTaggart, Author and Teacher
Maybe I can’t make every day No Housework Day, but today I’m going to celebrate and take a break from housework. Will you join me? Take a day to . . . Breathe. Rest. Enjoy a quiet evening with family and friends. Watch the game. And praise God for every blessing.
The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. Psalm 23:1-3
Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him! Psalm 34:8
