10 Wonderful Ways to Find Your Joy in Jesus
Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!
Philippians 4:4
So, how’s that going for you? Do you find your joy in Jesus? If Jesus was all you had would you still be joyful?
Did you know Paul wrote his letter to the Philippians from a Roman prison?
Is it possible to experience joy while living through terrible circumstances?
Paul would say, “Yes”! Because he discovered that joy is a gift found in the Lord’s presence.
That means the more time you and I focus on all we are and have in and through Jesus, the more joyful we’ll be.
The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust Him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.
Psalm 28:7
When we focus on life’s uncertainties and struggles our hearts and minds will be filled with dissatisfaction and sadness. But when we concentrate on who Jesus is and all we have in and through Him we have joy.
It’s such a simple equation, that I wonder why I lose sight of it so often. I wonder why I’m so quick to forget that…
Jesus is the One who makes it possible for me to have joy even when I’m living out life’s junk.
The Message puts it like this…
So if you’re serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s where the action is. See things from His perspective. Colossians 3:1–2
I decided to make a list to help me pursue those things over which Christ Jesus presides so I can faithfully find my joy in Him.
10 Wonderful Ways to Find Joy in Jesus
1. Focus on the Blessing of Jesus’ Presence.
You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.
Psalm 16:11
2. Make a List of All God’s Blessings.
You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, His generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus. Our God and Father abounds in glory that just pours out into eternity. Yes.
Philippians 4:19 (MSG)
3. Take a Break and Rest with the Lord.
Truly my soul finds rest in God;
Psalm 65:1–2 (NIV)
my salvation comes from Him.
Truly He is my rock and my salvation;
He is my fortress, I will never be shaken.
4. Cling to God’s Promises.
For every one of God’s promises is “Yes” in [Jesus]. Therefore, through him we also say “Amen” to the glory of God.
2 Corinthians 1:20 (CSB)
5. Smile more – at Yourself and the People Around You.
I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me.
Psalm 34:4–5
He freed me from all my fears.
Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy;
no shadow of shame will darken their faces.
6. Turn up the praise music and have fun.
Come, everyone! Clap your hands!
Psalm 47:1–2
Shout to God with joyful praise!
For the Lord Most High is awesome.
He is the great King of all the earth.
7. Savor Each Moment. Don’t Wish Your Life Away.
When I am filled with cares,
Psalm 94:19 (CSB)
Your comfort brings me joy.
8. Live for God – Do Your Best Even if it’s not Perfect.
So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out.
Romans 12:1–2 (MSG)
9. Show Love with Words and Actions.
Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from His love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? 2 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.
Philippians 2:1–2
10. Look for Reasons to Laugh.
We were filled with laughter,
Psalm 126:2
and we sang for joy.
And the other nations said,
“What amazing things the Lord has done for them.”
Let’s pray…
A Prayer to Find Your Joy in Jesus
Father God, Your Word tells me peace and joy are experienced through faith in Your Son, Jesus. I want my joy to come from Jesus. I’m tired of listening to the grumbles and groaners who point out all of the things that are wrong with the world. I’m tired of dwelling on worldly ideas that rob my joy and overwhelm me with disappointment and discouragement. I’m sorry I ignore Your will and listen to the wrong voices. Please forgive me.
By the power of Your Spirit, please help me commit to Your Word and focus my heart and mind on all that You have done for me through Jesus. Thank you for forgiving me and for giving me faith.
Please make me ever-aware of the Spirit’s presence in my life. Work in me and prompt me to add to my list of blessings every day. Help me be still in Your presence that I might KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST You. And remind me of Your promises that give me a future filled with hope.
And then Lord, help me live as if I have joy. Help me smile, laugh, and have fun more often. Help me do my best and savor every moment of the life You give me. And help me to do my very best to show my love for You and the people You have put in my life.
May I shine the light of Your love with joy … in Jesus’ name. Amen.
I want to live with joy in Jesus whatever my circumstances!
So with the Lord’s help, I’m focusing my heart and mind on Him. Can you imagine how awesome it would be if the followers of Jesus became known as the most joyful people on the planet?
May the Lord bless you as you apply the wonderful ways to find your joy in Jesus.

That’s beautiful, Ana! Thank you! God bless you!
Deb,
You are so very right in finding our joy in Jesus!
Constantly looking at and focusing on our trials brings us down into the pit of despair. Believe me! I know! I have been there many times. Now, I do try to focus on the promises of God’s word. Reading scripture and remembering scripture I have in my heart is something I rely on. Also, having this web site of yours to go to is a great uplifting experience. I am so grateful for the joy I see in you and in others here. Even when going through things that are hard and make us feel the “I can’t do this mode!” I have a scripture that helps me (amoung many!!) and I repeat it a lot. It is from Acts 2: 26. Jesus says, “I know the Lord is with me. He is helping me. God’s mighty power supports me. No wonder my heart is filled with joy and my tongue shouts his praises!”
I am grateful for you, for Kathy and for ALL of the others on this site who bring us joy in Jesus!! God bless you my dear sweet friend.
Thanks, Sue. It’s such a blessing to remain focused on Jesus—the source of our joy. He is our hope and promise who gives us a peace that passes understanding. I can’t imagine trying to do a day without Him. Thanks for always blessing us with your words of faith and hope. Blessings and hugs!
Bless you Deb, another wonderful reminder of the goodness of our God. Just praying through those scriptures, the joy is infectious! We read Ps 16 in church last week. Thank you so much, God has gifted you and you share that gift so beautifully. I love these readings, they are uplifting, challenging, thought provoking but most importantly anointed.
Have a truly blessed day
