How to Be a Loved Person Who Loves People
1. Love sees Jesus in People. See each person as someone for whom Christ died. It’s hard to judge, ridicule, bully, or hate someone when we see Jesus in them.
Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us. 1 John 4:11–12
2. Love gives time. Spend time with people. Social media and texting have made it easy for our relationships to feel more like hit and run than love. It takes time to get to know someone.
And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. Acts 2:44
3. Love cares with compassion. People who know each other see needs and act. They give help and lift each other up.
Do not forget to do good to others, and share with them, because such sacrifices please God. Hebrews 13:16
4. Love speaks truth. People who want to know and be known are honest with each other. They trust and are trustworthy.
Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. Ephesians 4:15
5. Love forgives. No exceptions. People who love forgive.
Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. Colossians 3:13–14
6. Love prays faithfully. As they know each other’s needs, people who love pray for each other. They don’t just say they’ll pray . . . they do it.
I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. 1 Timothy 2:1
7. Love is humble. This one may be the hardest of all. True humility goes against our nature to focus on ourselves. But knowing and loving others takes humility, because knowing and loving follows Jesus.
Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Ephesians 4:2
Whew, this list is convicting me. I see so many areas where I could do better.
I’m thankful that the Savior who knows and loves—forgives and gives me new opportunities every day to be a person who is loved and loves.
