Powerful Life Changing Truth About Jesus The Messiah
Who is Jesus?
A great teacher? A popular religious leader? A godly man? A prophet? A moral influencer?
Mark began his book about Jesus like this…
This is the Good News about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God.
Mark 1:1
Jesus the Messiah was promised, God ordained, and proclaimed by prophets to be the “expected King who would deliver the Jews.”
Our English word “Messiah” comes from the Hebrew word Mashiach and the Greek word Christos making the name Jesus Christ just another way of saying Jesus the Messiah.
So who was, is, and always will be Jesus?
Jesus is the Messiah—the long-awaited deliverer of the Jews and Savior of mankind. He is the One John referred to as “The Word.”
John gave up everything to follow Jesus. This Apostle loved Him and wanted everyone to KNOW the Jesus He knew. So, he returned to the beginning of everything and started his Gospel with these words…
In the beginning the Word already existed.
John 1:1–5
The Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He existed in the beginning with God.
God created everything through Him,
and nothing was created except through Him.
The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and His life brought light to everyone.
The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.
John’s was the last Gospel written. Matthew wrote for a primarily Jewish audience. Mark wrote to encourage Christians who lived in Rome. Luke wrote to Gentiles for the most part. Ane John wrote to SEEKers – both Jewish and Gentile.
The Jews would have recognized John’s reference to the Book of Genesis…
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1
He declared that Jesus had always been and would always be the Eternal God and Creator of everything. He willingly became a man while continuing to be God and brought the light of life to fulfill the promise that would shine for all eternity.
God created you and wanted you in this world and His Kingdom forever. He gave you unique and wonderful gifts and abilities to be used for plans and purposes.
So…
Who is Jesus?
He is The Word—God incarnate … the Lord of all creation in a fully human body.
Yes, He was and is a great teacher, popular religious leader, godly man, prophet, and moral influencer. But by the power of the Spirit, we KNOW Him as those things yet so much more.
He is God’s Messiah, the One whose love is so great that He lived among us and gave His life for us. He humbly offered Himself making it possible for us to respond to Him in humble repentance and surrendered hearts of faith.
Jesus is the Word, the Messiah, and the Light that leads to Life.
John wrote…
The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book. But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in Him you will have life by the power of His name.
John 20:30–31
Oh, how very blessed we are!
Let’s pray…
A Prayer Thanking God for Jesus the Messiah
Father God, Jesus said, “The Father and I are One!” You are the Triune God – One before creation and One for all eternity. Jesus was One with You when You spoke the world into being and You will be present in Him when He returns for Your children.
The only time He has been without You is when He gave His life for us on the cross and cried out, “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?” I can’t imagine how awful that must have been. The Messiah, our Savior, willingly endured the pain and suffering of every sin that had ever been or would ever be committed and He willingly suffered alone.
He spoke life into being and made it possible for us to experience life with You forever. He was and is the Light of Life. He brought Light to this dark world and His Light will never be extinguished.
I thank and praise You. Jesus the Messiah is my Lord and Savior. Please work within me the strength to trust and obey Your will for Your glory. In His holy name, I pray. Amen.
Paul wrote the following in his letter to the Colossians…
Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.
Colossians 1:15–16a
He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation,
for through Him God created everything
in the heavenly realms and on earth.
Friend, from the beginning through all eternity you and I can fully trust the Triune God – Creator, Savior, and Comforter. One God together forever giving us everything we need to KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST Him and spend today, tomorrow, and always in His glorious presence.
That’s a wonderful reason to praise God and rejoice!
We would love to pray for you.
