Powerful Truth to Know About Jesus from Moses

Moses wrote about Jesus in Genesis and John wrote about Him in Revelation. Every book of the Bible testifies to God's amazing grace, mercy, and love for the people He created. Amazing Grace and Love.

Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible, the ones we typically refer to as the Law. But he also wrote about Jesus, the promised Messiah in them.

If you’re a faithful visitor, You know I used to approach the Bible as an important book of rules I needed to know and obey to please God and enjoy His blessings.

I knew doctrinal Gospel truths and grew up being taught that God’s promise of eternal life came only through faith alone – by grace alone – in Christ alone – through Scripture alone.

But our Pastor believed we needed a good dose of the LAW before we received the Gospel. So, between church and home, I knew verses like this…

Those who have done good will rise to experience eternal life, and those who have continued in evil will rise to experience judgment.

John 5:29

And this…

Follow the whole instruction the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live, prosper, and have a long life in the land you will possess.

Deuteronomy 5:33 (CSB)

That may be why reading God’s Love Letter from beginning to end and learning more about God’s consistent message of grace transformed my life.

John later added these words of Jesus…

“You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life.”

“If you really believed Moses, you would believe me, because he wrote about me. But since you don’t believe what he wrote, how will you believe what I say?”

John 5:39–40, 46–47

I decided to pause today to look at some things Moses wrote about Jesus thousands of years He was born.

♥ The promise of Jesus, the Messiah…

“I will make you and the woman hostile toward each other. I will make your descendants and her descendant hostile toward each other. He will crush your head, and you will bruise His heel.”

Genesis 3:15 (GW)

Jesus is that descendant, the Messiah, who proclaimed…

“It is finished!” Then [Jesus] bowed His head and gave up His spirit.

John 19:30

♥ The willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac, previewed God’s love…

Isaac said, “The fire and the wood are here, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”

Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.”

Genesis 22:7–8 (CSB)

Jesus is the Sacrificial Lamb of God who takes away our sins…

John [the Baptist] said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

John 1:29

♥ The Passover previewed the blood sacrifice of Jesus that saves us…

I am the Lord; I will execute judgments against all the gods of Egypt. The blood on the houses where you are staying will be a distinguishing mark for you; when I see the blood, I will pass over you.

Exodus 12:12b–13a (CSB)

Jesus is the forever Passover Lamb sacrificed for us…

This is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and His people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many.

Matthew 26:28
Moses wrote about Jesus in Genesis and John wrote about Him in Revelation. Every book of the Bible testifies to God's amazing grace, mercy, and love for the people He created. Amazing Grace and Love.

♥ The Bronze Snake previewed how Jesus would die and the power of healing given through God’s crucifixion love.

So Moses made a bronze snake and mounted it on a pole. Whenever someone was bitten, and he looked at the bronze snake, he recovered.

Numbers 21:9 (CSB)

Jesus is the Crucified Savior…

And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life.

John 3:14–15

You may have learned that God is angry and vengeful in the Old Testament and gracious and forgiving in the New Testament. But…

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8)

And Scripture from Genesis through Revelation points to Him, the King of kings and Lord of lords—the Messiah, our Savior.

Moses wrote about Jesus in Genesis and John wrote about Him in Revelation. Every book of the Bible testifies to God's amazing grace, mercy, and love for the people He created. Amazing Grace and Love.

Let’s pray…

A Prayer Thanking God for
the Powerful Truth Moses Wrote About Jesus

Father God, You created us even though You knew we would sin, and loved us so much You sacrificed Your Son to save us.

Many have wondered why You didn’t use Your power to create people who would never sin. The explanation we’re often given is that true love comes with the freedom to be returned or rejected. I also believe You knew that Your love was, and would always be, greater than our sin.

Through the words of Moses and the other writers of Scripture, You tell every generation that Jesus’ life, death, and crucifixion was Your plan from the beginning.

Thank you for the closing words of the hymn, When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.

Knowing the powerful truth about Your love changes everything in my life. I no longer have to live in guilt and shame because I’m living under the burden of the Law. Through Jesus, I have been freed to respond to Your amazing divine love with total love.

Love that includes my heart, soul, mind, and strength. Love that transforms every part of my life. Love that gives me peace and hope because I believe I am covered with Your all-sufficient grace.

I finally understand that I can never earn Your grace, mercy, and love because You offer it freely. I am overwhelmed with gratitude and make it my heart’s desire to love You and live for Your glory now and forever. In the precious name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus. Amen.

May the Lord be with you, bless you, and fill you to overflowing with His grace, mercy, and love.

When we read the Old Testament, we find so many references to the coming of Jesus, the Lamb of God. We can read it knowing that love and grace are just around the corner. Blessings, Deb!

    1. It’s an awesome thought isn’t it, Martha! We truly can live each day knowing we have a future filled with hope. Blessings and hugs!

  2. Cindy Johns says:

Reading your article, I can’t help to have a twinge of doubt why god just didn’t make this world perfect from the beginning as he has all the power. It makes me so sad to watch this world self destruct. Only if…. My heart is just so sad as I have been reading revelations

    1. Hi, Cindy! You’re definitely not alone with that question. I believe God did make it all perfect but He gave free will because love isn’t really love if it’s not freely given. Satan fell because of the sin of pride and throughout the generations he has tempted people because of his desire to keep us from loving the great “I AM.” Revelations is a tough book especially as we can’t help but feel like we can see portions happening around us. Thank you so much for visiting and for leaving your honest and thought=provoking comment. God bless you!

      1. I love Revelations 3:8. It is a beautiful verse and I always picture Jesus holding that door open for me.

        1. That’s a powerful verse, Sue.“I know all the things you do, and I have opened a door for you that no one can close. You have little strength, yet you obeyed my word and did not deny me.”

My pastor gave me Rev. 3:20 as a verse to hold onto as a teen.“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” The Lord has used doors often as He has spoken to my heart over the years. Blessings and hugs!

          1. Revelations 3:20 is powerful too and I can understand why your Pastor gave you that verse. I love the thought of sharing that meal with Jesus. My sweet brother who passed away 3 years ago this month (February 25th) used to tell me that when he went to Heaven that Jesus and Mama would be there to greet him with a glass of wine and then they would all have dinner together. Your verse in Revelation brought tears to my eyes. I am so reminded of Billy. God Bless you my friend with tons of hugs!

          2. Isn’t that an awesome image of your brother, Mama, and Jesus together. It blesses me when I think of Rev celebrating with loved ones and the Lord. Oh, what a day that will be when we join the celebration. Blessings and hugs!

  3. I love that from the beginning, God had a plan in motion because HE knew we would fall short of following the 10 commandments. I love that God loves us so much that HE wants relationship with us. We are His children. And, now with the New Testament, with the sacrifice of His only Son, Jesus, and if we are believers, we can spend eternity in Heaven with HIM. Your prayers are always beautiful and on point. Thank you once again, my friend.

    1. It’s humbling isn’t it, Sue? To think that the God of all things knows us personally and gave His Son to show us its magnitude and save us. Wow! Thanks as always for you kindness and testimony. Blessings and hugs!
