God Lavishly Gives What You Need To Endure & Glorify Him

We can have everything we need to endure whatever God allows in ways that glorify Him, all because Jesus anticipated and endured the cross to save us and glorify the Father through His obedience.

Imagine yourself as a part of the crowd in the following verses…

Jesus replied to them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Truly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains by itself. But if it dies, it produces much fruit.”

John 12:23–24 (CSB)

Jesus knew He had come to die for us, but He also knew His resurrection would demonstrate His power over death. I still can’t imagine the emotions He must have felt knowing the intensity of the pain and suffering He was about to endure.

So, He turned to His Father…

“Now my soul is troubled. What should I say—Father, save me from this hour? But that is why I came to this hour. Father, glorify Your name.”

John 12:27–28a (CSB)
  • Jesus knew He was about to bear the weight of the world’s sins.
  • He knew suffering the punishment for our sins would momentarily separate Him from His Father.
  • He knew He had been sent for that specific moment to save us and glorify God.

Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”

John 12:8b (CSB)

Although the crowd was confused by what they heard, Jesus responded…

“This voice came, not for me, but for you. Now is the judgment of this world. Now the ruler of this world will be cast out. As for me, if I am lifted up from the earth I will draw all people to myself.” He said this to indicate what kind of death He was about to die.

John 12:30–33

Two things from these verses overwhelm me:

  1. Jesus loved and continues to love us so much that He courageously endured the anticipation of horrific suffering to save our souls from eternal punishment.
  2. God hears and responds to every prayer.

I remember several times when I dreaded an event I was confident would be painful or heartbreaking. But I’ve never had to think about facing it alone. I can’t begin to imagine living even a moment outside of God’s loving presence.

The Spirit often reminds me to repeat the following words when I feel frightened or alone…

I can do all things through Christ, because He gives me strength.

Philippians 4:13 (NCV)

Isaiah wrote…

Do you not know?
    Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and His understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.

Isaiah 40:28–29 (NIV)

You and I never have to live apart from God’s presence. We have His promise that He will never forsake us but give us strength when we’re weary, and power when we’re weak.

We have all we need to endure whatever God allows in ways that glorify Him, because Jesus endured the cross to save us and glorify God.

We can have everything we need to endure whatever God allows in ways that glorify Him, all because Jesus anticipated and endured the cross to save us and glorify the Father through His obedience.

Let’s pray…

A Prayer Thanking God for the Ability
to Endure and Glorify

Father God, some events and circumstances seem impossible to endure. We fear illnesses, injuries, betrayal, rejection, and death. We live in fear of the unknown. It’s hard to comprehend that Jesus knew what He was about to endure and still did it all for us.

He knew He was about to bear the weight of every sin that had been and would be committed, and He knew He would have to do it alone. He also knew His body would experience the excruciating pain of torture and crucifixion.

He also knew He came to fulfill Your promise and prayed to glorify You through it all. Please forgive me. I know I’ve failed to comprehend the full extent of my Savior’s suffering. He said, “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13).

God, Yours is the greatest love of all. Because You are perfect love, You gave Your Son to unimaginable suffering to provide a way of grace for perishing people like me.

You make it possible for me to KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST You. By Your grace, You have and will strengthen me to endure life’s temporary pains and offer me all I need to glorify You through it all.

When I am afraid, please help me look to Jesus, trusting His promise to help me carry my burdens. He suffered alone, so I never have to. Yes, Your love overwhelms me. Please give me everything I need to glorify You in good times and bad. Hold me and help me, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

We can have everything we need to endure whatever God allows in ways that glorify Him, all because Jesus anticipated and endured the cross to save us and glorify the Father through His obedience.

Joni Earickson Tada wrote…

“You don’t have to be alone in your hurt! Comfort is yours. Joy is an option. And it’s all been made possible by your Savior. He went without comfort so you might have it. He postponed joy so you might share in it. He willingly chose isolation so you might never be alone in your hurt and sorrow.”

Paul wrote…

Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

1 Corinthians 13:7

And George Mueller wrote…

The greater the difficulty to be overcome, the more will it be seen to the glory of God how much can be done by prayer and faith.

May we faithfully praise God for Jesus’ willingness to endure suffering and death for us and for giving us what we need to endure life’s challenges for His glory.

We would love to pray for you.
