Personalized Prayers to Know & Love God Through His Word
I used to read the Bible in bits and pieces. But then, nineteen years ago, I read it from beginning to end and discovered the continuity of God’s love letter to people.
I don’t remember a time when I didn’t have faith but that’s when I truly began to love God through His Word.
Sitting with my Bible and journal is an important part of every day; so, I found myself nodding along when I read the following quote from Brennan Manning…
“The Word we study has to be the Word we pray. My personal experience of the relentless tenderness of God came not from exegetes, theologians, and spiritual writers, but from sitting still in the presence of the living Word and beseeching Him to help me understand with my head and heart His written Word.”
If you’re a regular reader, you know I love writing prayers grounded in God’s Word. Since making His Word and prayer an important part of my life, I’ve grown in my knowledge and love for God.
So, I thought it might be a blessing for us to pray personalized prayers based on verses from the Bible and ask the Lord to help us know and love Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Personalized Prayers to
Know & Love God Through His Word
Since you were a child you have known the Holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise. And that wisdom leads to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for showing people what is wrong in their lives, for correcting faults, and for teaching how to live right.
2 Timothy 3:15–16
Father God, through Your Spirit, You inspired the writing of everything we need to KNOW and LOVE You. Thank you for giving us Your living and active Word. You want us to TRUST who You are and what You do.
You want us to realize our sins, come to You in repentance, and receive Your saving grace through faith in Jesus. Your Word tells us that everything is a gift of Your grace. We don’t deserve forgiveness. We cannot earn it yet You give it freely because of Your great love for us.
Your Word is filled with wisdom for today leading to faith that will bless us forever. Thank you! Amen.
By His divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know Him, the One who called us to Himself by means of His marvelous glory and excellence. And because of His glory and excellence, He has given us great and precious promises.
2 Peter 1:3–4a
Father, we are so very grateful for Your precious promises. By Your grace, we can KNOW Your will. You have given us all we need to trust Your guidance confident that You want what is best for us today and always.
Your promises tell us that You pursue us with Your love. Although we are sinful and selfish You continue to work in our lives because You know that when we “love God and love people” we will enjoy more of the world You want for us.
Thank You for calling us to Yourself through Your grace, mercy, and love. You are excellent and glorious and we praise You. Amen.
“Be still, and know that I am God!
Psalm 46:10
I will be honored by every nation.
I will be honored throughout the world.”
Father, life is full of demands and distractions. The enemy wants to keep us so busy that we forget to pause and take in the stillness. Lord, I ask You to help me prioritize my life according to Your will. Help me “be still, cease striving, and let go of my concerns.” Help me focus my heart and mind on Jesus the author and perfector of my faith. (Hebrews 12:2)
I want to “Be still, and KNOW ” You, Lord. I want to hold Your promises close to my heart and LOVE You with all I am. By Your grace, please help me honor You with all that I am and shine the Light of Your love on a hurting hurrying world. Amen.
We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in His love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.
1 John 4:16
Lord, thank You! Your Word assures me of Your great and gracious love. Verse after verse speaks to Your plan to save people from the eternal consequences of their sins. You created a perfect world and we people foolishly and selfishly accepted behaviors that initiated pain and suffering.
So, You gave Your Son, Jesus, to endure my punishment making it possible for me to be healed and forgiven. Then You sent the Holy Spirit to show me the way of salvation through faith and guide me in the life You want for me. As I cling to Your Word, I ask You to help me KNOW YOUR TRUTH and LIVE in YOUR LOVE. Amen.
God showed how much He loved us by sending His one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through Him.
1 John 4:9
Father, because of Your Word, the power of Your Spirit, and faith-filled followers who have gone before me … I can have hope for the future. You promise that by Your grace through faith in Jesus, I will live with You forever in heaven.
That’s love! I have nothing I can offer but love and nothing I can do but trust and obey. I can’t do what You want for me on my own. I need Your help. I need Your Spirit.
Please fill me with FAITH in Jesus, HOPE for the future, and LOVE for You and the people around me. I LOVE You andwant to live for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
May God bless you as you pray personalized prayers and grow to know and love God more!

These are amazing, powerful prayers, Deb. May we ever seek to know our Lord better through His holy word.
Blessings!
Dear Deb,
I should have written you many times over the past many years to tell you how grateful I am for your comforting words and scriptures. You will never know how many difficult struggles your posts have seen me through. I often share your thoughts with friends and loved ones when you have written something specifically relevant to a particular hurt or problem. I look forward to every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday because your words and prayers will be the first part of my morning devotionals. I did email you after our daughter, Lauren, died Easter Eve 2023. You helped me through so much grief and gave me hope and the power to go on and finish whatever God has for me to do here. When your precious Rev died and went to be with our Lord and Savior, I wanted to offer you some comfort, but the words never came. I apologize. You have sustained me and reminded me that the best is yet to come. Today, this Friday before Thanksgiving, I am grateful for you in more ways than I can explain. Through your grief, you have helped others walk the journey with the lovliest of prayers and Godly advice and wisdom. These holidays coming up will be hard for me once again this year. I know they must be for you and your family. Thank you for not quitting or giving up. You touch so many hearts and souls each week. May God Bless you and yours, always.
Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful. I love that you explained these scriptures by prayer. This is just the thing I needed today! I don’t know if it is my age or what, but I have such a hard time staying focused when I sit to spend my morning time with Jesus. I confess, my mind wonders. This post today is so filled with wisdom and knowledge. Thank you, Deb!!! I pray that you have a wonderful weekend and stay safe and warm.
Love hugs to you!
I love you, Sue! My mind sometimes wonders a bit too sometimes, but God knows our hearts and understands we are but human. My life has been so busy crazy for months now, that I want to run screaming! But as long as we keep reaching out, God will reach back for us!! Bless you precious and ever so sweet, honest and stronger than you know, precious friend!
Kathy, I thank you so much for this sweet and encouraging message. You too, are so lovable. And I love you dearly. You always make my day and make me smile when you write. I know it has not been a good year for you with all of the sickness and the deaths in your family, plus the remodeling in your home. I do hope that things can slow down for you soon. I miss when you don’t post.
I agree with you and Lyle Anne and Martha. Deb is so faithful in her posts, even with the things she has had to deal with this year and the death of her husband. She is a lady of great strength and conviction in her faith. What a “mentor” she is to all of us!!
I am happy with this website and all of the followers. I am especially happy with the friendship you and I have found in each other.
I see that you and I both have much to be thankful for. We are so blessed with our spouses who I know are “God Sends!”

It has been a busy year, but God has given me strength and endurance and has blessed me with such wonderful and comforting friends as you and Deb and all those who come here to share!
We serve an awesome God and it never ceases to amaze me, the amazing gifts of dear friends, such as you, that He has given me to love, to share, and to learn with! Your friendship is such a blessing and I love you to, so very much! How i would love to give you a big hug and just sit and share all day! And who knows, God works in mysterious and most wonderful ways, that maybe we will get to do that someday!! I mentioned you the other day to Kenny and he said you ought to go see her! I said yes, I’d love to, but she lives in Georgia! His expression of surprise was so sweet! He didn’t realize we are friends in heart, with miles between us!! I hope you and your family and friends have a blessed and peaceful Thanksgiving also! We do indeed have so very much to be thankful for, and I pray to remember that everyday!
