Powerful Verses To Pray When You Need God’s Help

When the sun is shining and life is perfect we're not likely to think we need God's help. But when a crisis hits, it's important to remember that He is faithful. He wants us to run to Him in faith.

When the sun is shining and life is perfect we’re less likely to believe we need God’s help. When our days are comfortable and happy, it’s easy to feel self-sufficient and confident.

If you’re like me, you may even have a short list of things you’re convinced you can handle independently. Minor things God has helped you with in the past that you feel up to handling again.

I wonder if that’s why God allows the things that bring us to our knees in prayer … crying out to Him for help.

Too often I have to acknowledge that I can’t before I recognize that I need to run to the One who has no limitations—the One for whom everything is possible.

Elizabeth Elliot wrote…

If you believe in a God who controls the big things, you have to believe in a God who controls the little things. It is we, of course, to whom things look ‘little’ or ‘big’.

The truth is … God is in control and He tells us to:

  • Be still and know that He is God. (Psalm 46:10)
  • Ask. Seek. Knock. (Matthew 7:7)
  • Trust Him to give us strength. (Isaiah 12:2)
  • Confidently count on His mercy and grace. (Hebrews 4:16)
  • Never stop praying. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

Why!? Because He is who He says and is and does what He promises. He is trustworthy in everything no matter how big or small and I’m learning that when I’m fully surrendered to Him, there is no such thing as self-sufficiency.

I need Him. Every little part of me needs Him.

I can’t do it on my own—I need God’s help all day every day.

When the sun is shining and life is perfect we're not likely to think we need God's help. But when a crisis hits, it's important to remember that He is faithful. He wants us to run to Him in faith.

So, I’m praying and I would love for you to join me…

5 Verses to Pray When You Need God’s Help

Do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be afraid, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you; I will help you;
I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10 (CSB)

Father God, I need You. Especially when I’m afraid. I need to remember that You alone are God. You are the One who is with me. You promise to help me, hold me, and strengthen me. You tell me I belong to You and nothing can snatch me out of Your hand.

I am weak but You are strong. I know little but You KNOW everything. When I am overwhelmed by doubt and fear, You promise to help me because You are greater than anything this life brings. You are Lord of all and You are Lord of all of me. Thank you for always being willing to help. Amen.

So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God.
There we will receive His mercy,
and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

Hebrews 4:16

Father, thank you for inviting me to join You in the throne room of Your mercy and grace. You want me to talk with You about my hopes and dreams, fears and concerns, wants and needs, weaknesses and struggles. You tell me to “come and talk” with You.

Father, You are so very good. You are never too busy or distracted. You listen to me and want me to listen to You. By Your grace and the power of Your Spirit, guide me according to Your will. Open my heart and mind to listen and understand Your ways. I give myself to You. Please help me. Amen.

Help us, O God of our salvation!
    Help us for the glory of Your name.
Save us and forgive our sins
    for the honor of Your name.

Psalm 79:9

Lord, You are the One for whom everything is possible. Through Jesus, You made forgiveness and salvation possible. You give me what I need to live for the glory and honor of Your name. You offer to help me when life is painful and difficult and invite me to tell my story of thanks and praise so that the world might KNOW You … the only true God and Jesus, the Christ, whom You sent to make eternal life with You my hope for the future. (John 17:3)

I thank and praise You now and forever. Amen.

When the sun is shining and life is perfect we're not likely to think we need God's help. But when a crisis hits, it's important to remember that He is faithful. He wants us to run to Him in faith.

My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth!
He will not let you stumble;
the one who watches over you will not slumber.

Psalm 121:2–3

Whatever my circumstances, my help comes from You, Lord. You are my Creator, Savior, and Helper. When I surrender my life to You and trust You with all my heart, You promise to show me which path to take. (Proverbs 3:5–6)

And when I take the path You have chosen You promise to keep me from stumbling. When I am tempted, You promise to show me the way to resist and endure. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

I worship You, Lord. I rest in the TRUTH that You are faithfully watching over me. Nothing in my life is unknown to You. You never look away and never close Your eyes. When You are with me I have the help I need to say, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13) Amen.

But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper,
    whose hope is in the Lord their God.
He made heaven and earth,
    the sea, and everything in them.
    He keeps every promise forever.

Psalm 146:5–6

Father God, thank you for sending the Holy Spirit, our Helper. He is the One who gives me hope, strength, peace, and joy. He is the One who faithfully fills my life with love and gives me what I need to pour Your love into the lives of the people around me.

Thank you for keeping Your promises. Thank you for Jesus, the fulfillment of every promise You made to rescue us from sin, death, and the power of the enemy. You are gracious and good, loving and kind. I give myself to You trusting that You will give me what I need according to Your plans and purposes. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

The Psalmist wrote…

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
    will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
    He is my God, and I trust Him.

The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me.
    I will protect those who trust in my name.
When they call on me, I will answer;
    I will be with them in trouble.
    I will rescue and honor them.

Psalm 91:1–2, 14–15

When you need God’s help … run to Him in faith trusting His promises and remembering He has no limitations. He controls the big things and the small things. He loves you and wants you to spend forever in His loving care.
