Election Day is right around the corner. Many have voted already and more will vote on Tuesday.

It feels like America’s future and faith are on the ballot because God’s children know that a nation’s future and faith are closely connected.

David wrote…

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.

Psalm 33:12

Why? Because God knows and tells us the best way to live in community. Yet, since the beginning of time, people have struggled to honor God’s commands and live together well.

That’s the marvel of the United States.

Our Founding Fathers believed God blessed nations whose people placed their trust in Him and obeyed His commands.

So, they wrote the following Declaration…

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

And established a government of checks and balances to maintain these “self-evident” truths for future generations.

Because of our faith in God and concern for America’s future, we’re humbling ourselves in prayer and asking the Lord to turn our hearts and minds to Him, fill us with His love, and bless our nation.

Verses to Prayer for America’s Future and Faith

At times I might shut up the heavens so that no rain falls, or command grasshoppers to devour your crops, or send plagues among you. Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.

2 Chronicles 7:13–14

Father God, Your children are feeling anxious about the state of our nation. We’re facing storms, rumors of war, rights and freedoms being challenged, and a decline in our health. So by Your grace, we are humbling ourselves and coming to You in prayer.

Please prompt to SEEK Your face through Your Word and prayer. I come to You in repentance for the many ways we fail to TRUST and OBEY You. By the power of Your Spirit, please help us turn from wickedness to follow Your commands to love You and one another. Please heal us and heal our land. Amen.

The Lord frustrates the plans of the nations
    and thwarts all their schemes.
But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever;
    His intentions can never be shaken.

Psalm 33:10–11

Father, we humbly ask You to protect Your children and our nation. Please defeat all efforts to discourage and harm them. Your plans for us are intended for our good and Your glory.

I believe You use life’s circumstances to make us more like Jesus and guide us along the path You have prepared leading us to our eternal home in heaven with You. What You promised … You do. And what You say … happens. Your plans stand firm and Your intentions cannot be shaken. Thank you, Lord. Amen.

When there is moral rot within a nation, its government topples easily.
    But wise and knowledgeable leaders bring stability.

Proverbs 28:2

Oh, Father, the enemy is no longer hiding his evil plans for the world. Life is not valued as You desire. Sexuality is not being treated as a precious gift to unite two as one for life. Rather than worshipping You, many worship Your creation, power, possessions, and popularity. Morality is mocked and yes, our government appears weak.

I pray that You will bless us with knowledgeable and wise leaders who KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST You. I ask that Your Spirit will work in the hearts and minds of Your children encouraging them to vote wisely. Please help us and heal us. Amen.

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.

1 Timothy 2:1–4

Father, please forgive us. We are so quick to be divisive and critical. But You command us to love and pray. It’s hard to be thankful for all people and pray for leaders who are actively working against Your commands.

But if You told us to pray for them, we will. I don’t deserve Your saving grace any more than the next person. So, I pray that You will turn hearts and minds everywhere to repentance and salvation. You want everyone to be saved by Your through faith in Your Son, Jesus.

We pray for revival across our nation. May Your Spirit move mightily, transform lives, and help us live peacefully and quietly in Your loving care. Amen.

Our Father in heaven,
    may Your name be kept holy.
May Your Kingdom come soon.
May Your will be done on earth,
    as it is in heaven.

Matthew 6:9–10

Father God, I pray that You will give me all I need to keep Your name holy, treating it with respectful adoration and praise. I pray that the Kingdom of believers will increase here on earth and that we all will be ready and waiting for our Savior, Jesus to return.

I pray that we will honor You and obey Your will in our nation and throughout the world. All in heaven worship and adore You … may that be the desire of our hearts every day until we join the heavenly voices in Your glorious presence. You are the One for whom all things are possible. Please help us and turn us to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

As you and I pray for America in the days ahead, may we remember…

Praise God! He invites us to bring our messes to Him in faith and He can do the impossible. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. He can even heal our nation by His grace and for His glory.

  2. Indeed, it’s a worrisome time. This is not an average election but an epic battle between good and evil, between the heavenly forces and Satan’s demons. The candidates are really irrelevant. This election will decide if this Nation returns to God in repentance or finalizes its complete rejection of Him.

    I often recall Daniel’s prayer and only wish that we could kneel in front of Him collectively in the same spirit –
    “5 we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws. 6 We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our ancestors, and to all the people of the land.
    17 “Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake, Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary. 18 Give ear, our God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. 19 Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act! For your sake, my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name.”
    This prayer so perfectly describes the terrible state this Nation became. We too, turned our back on God, mocked Him and as a form of rebellion, idolized every form of sin that is abhorrent in His eyes. Just as Satan, we challenged Him, His rightful place over all creation.

    And yet still, God says it loud and clear but not too many listening –
    “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land” 2 Chronicles 7:14.

    Reagan was a perfect example that faith and politics can co-exist. I specially like this quote of him as it puts the light on that we can’t sit on the fence, can’t have it both ways –
    “It’s been written that the most sublime figure in American history was George Washington on his knees in the snow at Valley Forge. He personified a people who knew that it was not enough to depend on their own courage and goodness, that they must also seek help from God – their Father and preserver. Where did we begin to lose sight of that noble beginning, of our conviction that standards of right and wrong do exist and must be lived up to? Do we really think that we can have it both ways, that God will protect us in a time of crisis even as we turn away from him in our day-to-day life?”

    Let God’s mercy be with us in this election and with the future of this once great Nation. Let us return to Him with tears, shame and repentance.

        I love you Sue! I have kept you in my prayers and so hope you and your community are healing from the hurricane! There is still so much damage around here and it has been slow going to make progress here. Some places, homes, and businesses will never be the same…but all the churches around continue to help with clean up labor and needed donations! Praise God, He makes a way!! Hugs to you sweet friend! Miss you!

        1. Thank you, Kathy, for that sweet message! You are so kind and thoughtful, and I am so blessed by your friendship. (even though it is at a distance) The Lord has a way of bringing folks together and I feel that bond with you. (And Deb! God bless her for encouraging this friendship!)
          Things are still, slowly, but surely getting in order here. So much debris that has not been picked up by our County, but with the devastation, it is taking time. At our home things are pretty much back in order. We were fortunate to have someone local to handle all of what we needed. Our debris was taken away, but for a cost. The fellows all showed up one morning at 9:30 and saws were buzzing and all of them were like a bunch of busy bees getting that part done. By noon it was all gone. Then our fence had to be replaced. And we had damage on our porch roof. Now fence has to be painted. We were blessed. I just feel so bad for the North Carolina and Tennessee folks and others who have had so much more to deal with. I pray for them and feel their hurt and anxiety. God is good and He will provide a way. So many kind folks pitch in to help.
          I missed Deb’s birthday, and I am so sad that I did. She means so much to me and has been a blessing in my life. It was just so much going on around here with the clean-up and repairs that I fell short.
          I also miss hearing from you .
          Please continue to be the sweet and caring person you are. You have a wonderful gift!! And you are a treasure to me.

      2. Let God’s mercy shine on us. And if not, then let Him give us courage and endurance for the time ahead. This passage often helped me through life’s difficult choices:

        Daniel 3:17-18
        If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.
        But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.”

      Awesome Gaby! I too loved Ronald Reagan and so appreciated the way He loved God and country! He set a standard that no president since, has even remotely attained!
      God, please help us our country turn back to the “one nation under God” it used to be. 🙏🏻🇺🇸🙏🏻

      1. Amen my friend 🙏💞 We need healing but most of all we need to repent. I loved Reagan too and didn’t realize until recently, how often he referred to God in his speeches. Let the Lord’s mercy be with us and this Nation.

  4. Deb, You are right! We need to pray for our Country everyday and for GOOD Christian leadership. In our home we do pray for this on a daily basis. Thank you for the beautiful words to remind everyone. Voting is a privilege! My late brother never missed an election and voting. He valued this privilege. So do I! He was a wonderful “mentor!” Bless you and many prayers for a safe and wonderful weekend for you.

Thank you Deb for blessing us with this amazing prayer may your divine words reach the hearts and ears who have lost their way and look up to our gracious Father who is waiting with open arms!!
