12 Powerful Truths To Pray For Your Children Now

Sharing is caring!

How often do you pray for your children? I prayed consistently but I know now that I could have prayed more and worried less. So, I've made a list of 12 things to pray and a few prayers too.

Our children are grown and I’m enjoying the blessing of grandchildren.

Have you ever asked someone with grown children if there’s anything they wish they had done differently in the parenting department? Do you have something you wished you’d done more consistently or not done at all?

The main thing I wish I had done more faithfully is PRAY!

How faithfully do you pray for your children?

I prayed for my children regularly, but I wish I had prayed more specifically and intentionally.

You may have heard this story before, but I can’t resist sharing it again:

A kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children drawing … walking around to see each child’s artwork. As she  got to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing  was.  The little one replied, “I’m drawing God.”

The teacher paused and said, “but no one knows what God looks like.”
Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing the girl replied, “They will in a minute.”

I love child-like faith and believe it’s something the Lord wants for all of us. It’s no wonder the enemy works overtime to influence the hearts of our children.

Each generation has had to prayerfully and intentionally stand against the enemy’s efforts to pull children away from the Lord and it’s certainly true for families today…

  • Fewer are blessed to have close relatives living nearby to reinforce their values and beliefs.
  • The internet and television while offering many good things; offer plenty of negative influences as well.
  • Peer pressure and bullying aren’t new, but the internet has taken them to a new level.

That’s just the shortlist. You could probably add quite a few more. However, pausing to think about it can arouse worry and anxiety in every caring parent’s heart.

But God’s Word tells us not to worry but to pray…

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.

Philippians 4:6

And Stormie Omartian wrote in The Power of a Praying Parent…

“When we pray, we bring that power to bear upon everything we are praying about, and we allow the power of God to work through our powerlessness.”

How often do you pray for your children? I prayed consistently but I know now that I could have prayed more and worried less. So, I've made a list of 12 things to pray and a few prayers too.

Scriptures to Pray for Your Children

May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ.

2 Thessalonians 3:5

Father God, I thank you for my children. I love You and cherish being able to love and watch them grow. It’s easy to worry about their health, education, friends, and interests … the things that are in front of us each day. But I know their relationship with You is most important.

Please forgive us. Lead our hearts to fully know and appreciate Your gracious love. By the power of Your Spirit, please work in my child’s lives so they might KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST You through our Lord and Savior, Jesus.

May we center our hearts and minds on You, confident that You will guide us and help us guide our children to live according to Your will for Your glory. Amen.

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me.

John 10:27–28a

Lord, I pray that my children will KNOW Your voice. We live in a noisy world filled with many different voices and the enemy uses whatever he can to confuse them with lies and distortion of Your Word.

May Your Spirit, prompt them to “be still and know” You, Your love, and Your will. May they prayerfully listen to Your still quiet voice of LOVE and TRUTH. May they live each day safely in Your care. Amen.

The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior;
my God is my rock, in whom I find protection.
He is my shield, the power that saves me,
    and my place of safety.

Psalm 18:2

Lord, I pray that You will be the rock that gives my children a firm foundation on which to stand. I ask You to protect and shield them from the power of the enemy and his influence on their lives.

David wrote that You rescued him and led him to a place of safety because You delighted in him. (Psalm 18:19) I pray that for my children. Please guard their hearts and minds, give them strength, and make them loving and faithful. Help them resist temptation and lead them on the path to life with You that lasts forever. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

    Hello, Deb,
You are in my prayers for strength , health, peace and joy.
Thank you for sharing and for your Biblical words of truth and wisdom.
My husband and I pray for and with our children day and night. We are specific in our prayers with our concerns, hopes and desires for our children.
Before long, our children begin to echo our prayers, and from their hearts comes out the virtues and qualities we desire to see in our children.
When we receive a word for each child from the Holy Spirit, we share that word with our children. We also teach our children to have strong Christian morals and the Fruit of the Spirit. And for our children to be leaders, not followers.
Prayers in unity and without ceasing are Powerful! Prayers for our children Bible verses: Luke 18:1 – Luke 11:28 –
