5 Verses that will Help You Rest When Life is Crazy
Sometimes it’s easy to slow down, breathe, and get the rest you and I need but other times when life is stressful . . . I don’t know about you but I can get so caught up in the craziness that I forget to take the time I need to spend time with the Lord and find rest for my soul.
So…
I went looking for verses to inspire me from those who have gone before me. People who have lived life’s overwhelm and still managed to find their peace in the Lord.
That’s what I want. You too?!
Then go with me. Let’s stop and pray along with those whose words the Lord recorded for our benefit to help us find rest.
5 Verses that Will Help You Rest When Life is Crazy
Psalm 62:5–7
I find rest in God;
only He gives me hope.
He is my rock and my salvation.
He is my defender;
I will not be defeated.
My honor and salvation come from God.
He is my mighty rock and my protection.
Father, You are my hope and my defender. You have already provided all I need for today and for eternity. Please forgive my distracted heart and help me turn my eyes to You, to stop, breathe, and rest. With Your help my overwhelm will not distract me, stress will not ruin my day, and fear will not defeat me. Thank you for always being with me. Help me rest is Your sweet presence today.
Psalm 116:5–7
The Lord is loving and right. Yes, our God is full of loving-kindness. The Lord takes care of the child-like. I was brought down, and He saved me. Return to your rest, O my soul. For the Lord has been good to you.
Oh Lord, You are so good to me. Always faithful and loving. Always compassionate and kind. You ask me to be child-like. Forgive me for too often being childish. I want to trust You completely, resting in Your amazing grace and constant love. Nothing can tear me away from You. You, Lord, hold me safely in Your hand. Your goodness reaches to the ends of the earth and yet, rests personally on me. Thank you, Lord. Amen.
Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads, and I will give you rest.”
Dearest Jesus, I come to You! I am tired and there are times when my burden feels too heavy. What a blessing to know I am not alone. I can bring every burden to You and You will help me carry it. Nothing is too big and nothing is too small. Just knowing that brings peace and rest to my soul. In and with You I can say with confidence, “Today, it is well with my soul. Thank you!
Matthew 11:29
“Accept my teachings and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit, and you will find rest for your lives.”
Draw me close, Lord Jesus. I run to Your Word to learn from You. Help me trust and follow Your teachings, knowing they offer me a better way to live. Following You helps me avoid so many of life’s challenges and consequences . . . that alone gives me more peace and helps me rest. Forgive me for the many times I’ve foolishly listened to the world or my own stubborn will. I want to do better and with Your help, I believe I can. I love You, Lord. Thank you.
Mark 6:31
Crowds of people were coming and going so that Jesus and His followers did not even have time to eat. He said to them, “Come away by yourselves, and we will go to a lonely place to get some rest.”
Jesus, You invite me to come away with You to quiet rest. When my life is crazy and everyone seems to want a piece of me, I know You understand. You walked a life of demands and expectations. I love how you showed us the blessing of getting away with Your Father as You quietly got away from the crowds to pray. Help me take time and allow You to fill me with Your Word and Your Spirit. I cannot pour out of an empty cup. You fill my cup, Lord. Thank You. I need You.
Psalm 4:8
In peace, I will lie down and sleep,
for You alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.
You, Lord, are my safety and strength. I come to You my source of peace and rest under the shadow of Your wings. Thank you for this sweet reminder Lord. Amen.
May you be blessed as you find your rest in Jesus today and every day.
What is your favorite verse to hold close when you’re overwhelmed and stressed?
I am so excited! I’m getting together with my best blogging friends to share our best of the best blog posts this summer in the Summer Sizzle Blog Hop Series.
You don’t want to miss this! Nine new posts each week rated by our readers as our most popular.
And you wondered what you were going to read on these lazy warm days…
Wow, Deb, did your post title grab me this morning. Possibly/probably because “this morning” started at 2 a.m. when my RLS kicked in and kept right on going at 4 when a storm kicked in. Am currently waiting for caffeine to kick in. Thank you for these lovely verses. Just reading the Psalm 62 segment brings (restfully) to mind Bethel Music’s “It Is Well.” Blessings on your day, and thank you for hosting!
Love, love, love this post, Deb! I needed it so much. My favorite part: Your goodness reaches to the ends of the earth and yet, rests personally on me. Thank you for this encouragement. I’m sharing this on FB and Twitter!
Hi Deb! Thanks for sharing so uplifting verses with us. They are really filled with hope and assurance to stay in faith and rest in His arms when life is overwhelming. May God bless you!
I love the prayers that follow each verse. So helpful to turn God’s Words into prayer as a way of pouring our hearts out to Him.
Great verses Deb! One of my favorites is Proversbs 3:5-6, Trust in the Lord with all your heart; don’t rely on your own intelligence. Know Him in all your paths, and He will keep your ways straight. May you have a blessed weekend!
There are so many to choose from but I will add this one today.
Psalm 139:9-10
If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me.
I have always loved the visual of God’s own hand leading me and holding me!
The verses you gave us today, along with your thoughtful prayers, gave me such peace today, Deb. My heart seemed especially drawn to Mark 6:31. I love Jesus’ invitation to just drop everything and come along with Him to find true peace and rest.
Blessings for a wonderful weekend!
Love these verses and definitely needed to hear them today. One of my favorites is:
There is only one strong, safe, and secure place for me; it’s in God alone and I love him! He’s the One who gives me strength and skill for the battle. He’s my Shelter of love and my Fortress of faith, who wraps himself around me as a secure shield. I hide myself in this One who subdues enemies before me! Psalm 144:1-2 TPT
In Him, I can stand strong and face the enemy!
Thanks for sharing these! Loved them!
Okay so now I think God has got my attention. I keep reading and reading about rest. He keeps nudging me that way, but I resist. Love these verses. I keep a list of my favorite verses by topic, and these will be added. Thank you for you much-needed post.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend,
Maree
