You Might be a Church Bully If . . . Part 2 – 8 Kinds of Bullies

The following are real Church Bulletin Bloopers:

  • Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our church and community.
  • The peacemaking meeting scheduled for today has been canceled due to a conflict.
  • Don’t let worry kill you off – let the church help.
  • The church will host an evening of fine dining, superb entertainment, and gracious hostility.

Laughter is good for the soul. Which is the reason I used humor to start our conversation about church bullying yesterday, but the truth . . . it’s not funny.

Bullies are everywhere – in the classroom, on the playground, in the office, in every group and organization, sometimes they’re even in our homes. Bullies come in all shapes and sizes, and use different kinds of bullying to get their way.

Part 2 – 8 Different Kinds of Bullies

Physical Bully – uses punching, kicking, pinching, pushing, tripping, and damaging property to cause physical harm to their victims.

Verbal Bully – uses name-calling, sarcasm, intimidation, insults, and bigotry to belittle their targets.

Relational Bully – uses social status and emotional manipulation to reject someone and cut them off from their peers.

Reactive Bully – uses either playing the victim or bully to manipulate the people around them and accomplish their goals.

Backstabber Bully – uses gossip, rumors, and lies to devalue and exclude others.

Cyber-Bully – uses taunting and humiliation through social media and email to attack their casualties.

Prejudicial Bully – uses ridicule and cruel humor to put down people who are different.

Legal Bully – uses those in authority or the court system to intimidate or harm their mark.

There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to Him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers. Proverbs 6:16-19

God hates – lying, slander, and discord.

I think it’s fair to say God hates bullying. He loves bullies, because He loves sinners. Something about which I’m very thankful . . . I’m a sinner and I’m guessing you are too.

He hates bullying. All kinds of bullying.

I’m guessing He really hates bullying in His church among His children.

Today’s little known holiday is Lost Penny Day – in honor of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday?

Let’s talk: What kind of bully is most common among women? Did you know God hates bullying? Do you pick up pennies you see on the ground?

  1. I think it’s the relational and backstabber bully who is most common in women. Or maybe they just bug me the most. 🙂

    1. You’re too funny! Maybe it’s because we are women. But I agree, those are the two we probably deal with the most . . . mean girls grown up. Which ones do you think are most common among men?

      1. It would be easy to say physical, but I think most male bullies are verbal. I have seen a lot of cyber bullying by both genders. Looking forward to reading what to do about them. 🙂
