Want to be a better listener Listening will bless every area of your life. Here are 12 quotes - listen to what these wise words advise.

I want to listen.

I haven’t always wanted to listen.

Do you know a little girl who just loves the sound of her own voice? Who loved to coo and babble, learned words early, and felt the need to share them at every opportunity?

That was me. I was a good talker.

But I don’t want to be known as a talker; I want to be a listener.

An excellent listener.

[Tweet “Listening is more than hearing. Listening needs attention. “]

And attention is hard to get . . . we rarely look at each other during conversations. We text, tweet, and post. We talk while watching television, playing music, and looking at our phones. We want things fast, easy, and agreeable.

Yes, agreeable.

But a good listener doesn’t have to agree.

A good listener cares more about people than opinions.

A good listener—loves.

  1. I love the simple reminder to listen more, talk less, and the inspiration to back it up Deb. I love to talk and I get paid to do it daily! 🙂 But my life is much more enriched when I take a step back and stop talking and just listen to others share their stories. Good stuff!

    1. Isn’t it fun to turn something you love doing into a career. I’ve been a professional “talker” through teaching. But yes, it’s time to practice being a better listener. It’s too easy to give half my attention other things. Always a work in progress.

  2. Thanks Jenny, I love your Bible Journaling post today too!

  3. Very good post! A much needed reminder, especially in this digital age when it patience is so lacking and everyone seems to always have their face in their phone.

  4. Didn’t used to be. Had my own agenda. I believe I have become a much better listener over time and as I realize I don’t have to please anyone with my “knowledge.”

  5. Deb,
This is an area that I need to work on– and that God has been pressing in on my heart about. Loved the Scriptures you shared, and I am definitely encouraged in the right direction by your words here. Thank you! So glad I was linked up after you today at Meredith’s so that I could read this one again.

I love how you linked listening and loving. It’s so true, although I don’t always think about it that way. Thanks for this. And for linking up at #ThreeWordWednesday.

Care-filled listening… I love that so much. I often told my kids, “I know you’re listening to me when you are looking me in the eyes!” Hard to not care when someone’s cares are reflected right there in front of you in a personal way.
Loved the included quotes, and so glad I decided to visit today from #Woman2WomanWednesdays 🙂

  9. Jovella Emm says:

Thanks for sharing these words of wisdom. I made a conscious and dedicated effort years ago to be a better listener; not easy to do when you have ADHD! Listening well and without judgement sure makes for better relationships and interactions!

  10. Raising Samuels says:

This is a great list of quotes! I agree with you. People text a lot today and it loses that personal touch of connecting with people face to face, and learning the language of communication. Thanks for sharing. #bloggercaregroup
