Today is the International Day of Awesomeness

The International Day of Awesomeness is a celebration of awesomeness. People are awesome every day, frequently don’t realize it, and their feats of awesomeness are rarely recognized. We aim to fix that, with a special day to both perform and celebrate feats of awesomeness!

The day originated in 2007 when Kevin Lawver’s coworker said they should have a celebration of Kevin’s awesomeness. That turned into the IDOA.

Since 2007 they’ve had two mottos:

1. Because everyone needs an excuse to be awesome.
2. No one’s perfect, but everyone can be awesome.

What exactly does it mean to be awesome?

The Dictionary defines it as – inspiring an overwhelming feeling of reverence, admiration, or fear.

Let’s scratch reverence and fear, because I don’t believe most of us are looking to be revered or feared. But admired . . . maybe.

Here are some synonyms for awesome that are more what we’re hoping for: beautiful, wonderful, impressive, amazing, incredible, marvelous, and fantastic.

Okay, I Want that . . . you too?

Well, at least I want people to think I’m all those “awesome” things, because most of the time I don’t think them about myself. Most of the time my thoughts go more like this – you’re not getting any younger, and have you ever done anything that’s impressive, amazing, or fantastic.

I look at CMB, almost a thousand posts, hours of writing, and I wonder . . . hmmm, does any of this matter?

So, I wander around the internet looking for ways to look younger and reach more readers. Ways to make the outside of my life look awesome.

Shhhh! That’s when a very quiet voice says,

I love you, and I’ve chosen you to be My own. 1 Thessalonians 1:4
Remember, I am awesome God, God of gods and Lord of lords. Deuteronomy 10:17
Love Me and love others. Matthew 22:37 & 39
Live in a way that honors me, blesses others, and helps you know and love Me better. Colossians 1:10

I wonder – do people who are famous and appear awesome to the fans and followers . . . happy and content. Do they experience peace and joy?

Maybe what we’re all really looking for is the secret to feeling awesome – inside.

How to Be Awesome

  • Be Nice – to everyone, even yourself.
  • Be Positive – count your blessings.
  • Be Passionate – do you best.
  • Be Honest – gentle but honest, always.
  • Be Generous – help those in need.
  • Be Courageous – surrender your fear and go for it.
  • Be Intentional – think ahead to your goals.
  • Be Trustworthy – be authentic, live with integrity.
  • Be Thoughtful – do unexpected acts of kindness.
  • Be Involved – pay attention to the world around you.
  • Be Active – Just do it.

Finally,

  • Honor God  – be the very best version of  you. He created you for this time and place for a reason.

John Snyder wrote in Your 100 Day Prayer:

“Why weren’t you born in 1620?Or 1054? Or 432 BC? -We are given our families, years of birth and death, nations, languages, experiences and all the rest because God put us where we are.”

You are here right now at this place and time to serve Him in ways that will bring Him glory, honor, and praise.

Now that’s awesome!
